Weather
The forecast predicts a full 12 hours of glorious sun today, alongside light winds and mild temperatures.
We are expecting a maximum temperatures around 7 degrees, with winds almost negligible in town but gusting up to 30kmh from the North West on the peaks.
At 09:00:
It was... -2 degrees on Bellevarde, 2 degrees in town, and 0 degrees on the Pisaillas glacier.
Best not forget your sunnies and suncream as the UV index is set to reach 7 around lunchtime today.
A sunny spring ski day is on the cards for you today if you are heading out on to the hill.
In Le Fornet sector, everything is open today except the piste tunnel which remains closed. Pistes Pre-chemin, Petit bois and Foret have not been piste bashed.
On the Pissaillas Glacier, everything is open and groomed today.
Up in Solaise everything is open except the 3000 drag lift which is still closed due to lack of snow, and piste marmottons which I snow closed for the rest of the season.
Piste S has not been bashed, and there is a risk that the L may close later due to avalanche risk.
As for Bellevarde, everything is open except the very bottom of piste Joseray. There is also a change OK Orange may close later due to avalanche risk so again stay alert for updates.
There is a chance that piste Santons may close later as in this warmer spring weather the avalanche risk is a lot higher.
If you are planning on heading down santons keep your eyes peeled for the sign at the top of bellevarde with the updates.
You can take epaule du charvet if you are a good skiier, then cut across to the bottom of santons to get back to Val d'isere.
The cross country trails are open, however a few walking trails have now closed. Today the open ones are Les Marmottes, Manchet multiactivity trail, Lac Ouillette, Joseray, pont st charles and col de l'iseran.
The ski touring trails Brinzei in La Daille is now closed for the season, and Ecuriel up Solaise is open but we recommend it to experts only as there is minimal snow and technical kick turns are required very regularly as it is a very narrow path.
The avalanche risk is 2/5 today and I realised that if you make this a percentage it is a 40% chance of an off piste avalanche which does make you realise how significant it is....
Always take all safety precautions if you are planning an off piste adventure.
Dont forget all your avalanche kit, This includes your transiever, shovel and probe.
You could also hire a guide if you are not sure what you are doing!
Thats all for now. I will be back at 09:40 with the weather.
