WEATHER
Apparently it will be an unstable day, weatherwise.
Humid wind from the west…
Up to 40 km/hour, with clouds blocking our view of the peaks.
So sounded a bit depressing but we can already see a big blue sky (between clouds)
so maybe get out there before this changes,
as the clever weather wizards only mentioned sun and clear skies in the valley.
At 9.30 the temperature is
- +4° in the Village.
- 0° on Solaise.
- 0° on Bellevarde.
- -6° on Pisaillas.
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +6°
ROADS
We are not expecting any problems on our roads today.
SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
Welcome to Val !
Great choice of week - fewer people, kinder prices and
a large dump of snow last week, which has now been nicely
bashed down ready for you.
All lifts are running except 2 draglifts and most pistes are open
SO PLEASE don’t ski on one of the few slopes closed by our experts.
The snow higher up is better in the afternoon.
You may find deep sticky slush on the lower slopes - yummy !
Luckily we have fast comfy lifts to get you down
without wrecking your body, marriage or sense of humour.
ON BELLEVARDE
All groomed except part of the Face.
The Border Cross is still being prepared, but will then open.
The Lanches and
The bottoms of the G and Orange are closed due to lack of snow.
Monde du Gypaete is closed as they are preparing for this week’s
Alpine Park freestyle event.
There is training on the upper part of the Orange and OK this morning.
The Lanches draglift is closed.
ON SOLAISE
The following are closed :
The Arcelle
S
Marmottons
The 3000
Junior Border cross
The Marais and glacier were not groomed.
The Manchet chairlift is still open for off pisteurs 10-14.30.
LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel, Signal and The Foret.
The Petit Bois and Table d’Orientation were not groomed.
ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and all the slopes were groomed.
ON THE NURSERY SLOPE
Everything is open and groomed.
The avalanche risk today 3 out of 5.
This is a significant risk.
As the sun warms the slopes there is still the chance of heavy wet avalanches.
Don’t get caught in one.
If you are heading off piste –
Do you know what you are doing and where you are going ?
Do all of your team have a beep, probe and shovel
And have practised regularly and recently ?
Nope ?
Hire a mountain guide, or stay on our beautiful pistes.
If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or Borsat chairlifts.
Our multi activity and cross country tracks on the top of Solaise are open.
Walkers have the choice of Pont St Charles or Manchet Valley.
Or take the lifts up to the top of Solaise or le Fornet.
LOCAL NEWS
A winter flies, or schusses past…………..
At the end of November 5 months sounds like a lot of turns,
But we are now slowly shutting down.
With only two weeks to go there are less people here,
So we have our eco eye out.
In areas that have more than one lift to get to same destination,
One of those lifts will close before the 4th of May.
SO
Today is the last day you can take the Bellevarde Express and Loyes chairlift
up from the bottom of the Face,
but the Olympique is running and gets you to the same peak in a jiffy.
From Saturday our 3 draglifts will close.
On Sunday The Mont Blanc and Rogoney chairlifts shut,
And the funival next Monday.
The good news is that you can still access all of our vast domain.
Even the Manchet chairlift, beloved of Off pisteurs, will be open 10.00 – 14.30.
It is beyond the comprehension of most of us why people come to this beautiful area
and scatter litter.
It is shocking what is found when the snow melts.
Is it that difficult to hold onto a can or sweet wrapper until you see a bin ?
You managed to carry the full can and bar of chocolate, however heavy.
Since November 2023 Val, and Paris, have been working with
Citéo and Mountain riders to work out why this still happens,
and what we can do about it.
Their results and suggestions will be presented at 09.30 tomorrow morning,
la Salle de Conseil à la Maison de Marcel Charvin.
There are plans to roll out a National strategy.
Not sure you can fix either selfish or stupid,
but it will be interesting to hear their ideas.
The first Alpine Park Event last year was such a success
that it is back, starting on Thursday.
The brainchild of Val’s Olympic Slalom champion, Clément Noël.
The world’s best skiers
(including Loïc Meillard, Federica Brignone, Stéphanie Benier, Steven Amiez, Victor Muffat-Jeandet)
will once again be in Val competing in a race with a difference.
A slant on a slalom.
Apart from the World Cup elite, the best French under 21’s
will also be strutting their stuff,
including Val’s Valentine Belmonte and Flavio Vitale from Tignes.
Teams of 4 compete on a course which doesn’t just have a
hard smooth surface and some poles but
includes slopestyle-inspired jumps, aerial poles and short cut tunnels.
Not only a tricky challenge for the skiers,
But a lot of fun for the spectators.
The Fan zone will have a huge screen, fun activities and challenges.
Teaching you more about our love of racing,
And refreshments.
Monday is Market Day in Val.
They started at 08.00 and are open until late,
so come and peruse the many stalls in the Centre of the Village.
These include
local cheeses and dried meat
clothes
ski kit
arts and crafts.
What about a prezzie for those back home ?
17h45 : Snake Gliss Easter Egg Hunt.
Easter Monday, so Easter eggs are still allowed.
There is a hunt on the Savonette nursery slope.
If you are over 4 and 12 or under, and can bring a parent
Come and grab as many eggs as possible
While following a course in a snake snow sledge.
Lots of fun and no charge.
20.30
“Locked” is showing in our comfy cinema, in English.
This is an American remake of the
Argentinian thriller “4x4”.
