SKI REPORT
Click here for the most up to date information
but our highlights are summarised here :
It is a beautiful day to take the Leisseire chairlift
and go UP and Over, Back and Forth
Between Solaise and Le Fornet.
The wind over the last few weeks has presented challenges,
making it difficult to safely open all the slopes.
If you have been here before, and remember the run back from the top of the bubble
TAKE CARE
Do NOT set off at speed on your ‘usual’ schuss……….
Beginners are strongly recommended to take the
lovely new fast comfy bubble down.
You are on holiday, the ski down at the moment may make you cry ….
The avalanche risk today is a significant 3 out of 5.
Think very carefully before skiing off piste.
Slabs + fragile base = trouble.
Yesterday a family were enjoying a Xmas Day off piste ski.
Until they were caught in an avalanche.
Luckily they survived.
We will always remember another beautiful sunny Boxing Day
when David Robinson was skiing in a small, well equipped, well trained group of friends
Led by a very experienced local off piste instructor.
But was killed in an avalanche, very near a piste.
LOCAL NEWS
More than 3500 turned out to watch yesterdays Christmas Show.
180 instructors from the French Ski school (ESF)
skied down the steep black run, the Face de Bellevarde
highlighting the colours of our Union Jack.
Magnificant fire works finished the evening with a bang.
Continuing with colour……..
Go to the 5 star hotel, the Barmes de L'Ours
where the French Artist, Elzevir
has an exhibition of more than 60 works
ranging from from very large, using gouache
to tiny watercolours
and even some oil on canvas.
Colourful characters, dressed for snow sports,
are placed on blank backgrounds
leaving you to contribute by imagining the snow...
While on the art theme
Happy Birthday to Val d’Isères talented art teacher, Rozenn Roszak.
As well as teaching our local children,
she now tutors, cagoles and encourages 50 adults -
1 for each of the years her family have travelled
from across France to celebrate with her.
Work completed in her classes is currently
exhibited in Maison de Val, in the corridor heading towards the cinema.
Finally, Val welcomes the French author Catherine Charrier
who will be sharing her new book, « Col Rouge » with us.
Why not join her for a drink in our new bookshop
where she will happily sign copies of her books.
I don't THINK there is an English version…. YET......
Please don't be surprised, disappointed or complain
if an event is in French.
