WEATHER
Another beautiful day in our mountains !
Sun, blue skies, not too cold and little wind.
However, the Yellow weather warning remains
as the risk of avalanches in the Savoie
is very high.
In nearby Les Arcs, this Christmas week,
a family has been devasted by the avalanche
that killed their teenager.
We still have a temperature inversion.
At 10.15 it is
- -6° in the Village
- -1° on the Pisaillas
- +4° on Bellevarde
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +4°
ROADS
There are no problems on the roads at the moment
for those who drive sensibly
in cars properly equipped for the winter.
As it is a Friday ……
In the school holidays….
The traffic on the roads of the Savoie may be busy this evening.
And tomorrow………..
MAJOR changeover day …..
If you can avoid leaving………Stay !
If you can’t -
Pack snacks, drinks
Entertainment for your children
And patience. Plenty of it.
Drive carefully.
Arrive safely.
SKI REPORT
For the most up to date information regarding
what is open, or closed, click here!
The highlights from this mornings ski report follows :
ON BELLEVARDE
There is a possibility that the
Epaule du Charvet and Santons may open today.
They have been closed due to lack of snow,
but our expert snow groomers are on the case.
IF ANY piste is closed,
Don’t nip under those ropes
Even if it looks ‘ready’ at the entrance.
The groomed area you see, may not go far …
You may meet holes, rocks or a huge machine.
The driver, on a closed piste, may not see you.
The Face is in better condition this morning than it will be
this afternoon as many skiers will have
turned and turned and turned and turned
leaving deep chopped up snow.
The pisteurs, the team that do the rescues….
Would like us to remind you that it is a
VERY Black run.
Unless you are an
EXPERT SKIER, avoid the face
This afternoon
If you fall, you may also
Hit and injure someone else.
Don’t get a black mark
By skiing a black run
Before you are ready.
The avalanche risk today is 3 out of 5
Think very carefully before skiing off piste.
Are all your group properly trained and equipped ?
Could they find and dig YOU out quickly ?
The base is not good
The slabs are significant
The wind has done damage
and the sun has warmed the snow.
Never follow tracks, unless made by your mountain professional.
Even if 20 or more tracks have been made
it doesn’t mean that any of those skiers
knew where they were going, let alone
anything about the current snow conditions.
Don’t be fool that tumbles in a terrifying ride...
LOCAL NEWS
40 lucky, loyal clients were invited by our lift company, STVI,
to enjoy the First Tracks yesterday morning.
Accompanied by instructors, they chose
either the Diebold or the Face.
What a joy to be alone on the mountain,
In the sunshine, on perfectly groomed pistes !
More of the chosen few will be up early
on the 2nd January.
The French author Catherine Charrier
was in town last night meeting fans.
Initially at the multimedia library, and later over a drink
at our new bookshop on the main street.
Her new novel describes the lives of the Savoyarde ‘Red Collar’ workers,
most of whom came from St Foy, Villaroger, Tignes
and even Val d Isėre.
They all work for a big auction house,
and are instantly recognisable by their smart black jackets with
Red collars.
The story starts in 1861
and follows the ups and downs, ins and outs
Of a family over the next 150 years.
Intrigued ?
There are still copies available to buy !
Last night 3 more friends of Val d’Isėre were rewarded for returning regularly.
Two travel from Belgium.
Martine Daenan now proudly wears a gold medal in recognition of 50 years of Val fun.
She arrived as a 9 year old and, several years later, after her father died,
was unofficially adopted by the Scaraffiotti family
allowing her to spend all the school holidays here.
She even took home an opinel knife to continue cutting cheese like a True Savoyarde
Another gold went to her husband René Philippe who met Martine
when he came here with the Liege Ski Club
and gallantly deliverd her skis home for her.
Clearly a good ploy as they have been together ever since !
Pierre Corpechot’s 28 years has earned him a beautiful bronze medal.
after upgrading from his Tignes childhood holidays,
to subsidising both Val's nightclub and Medical Centre (After repeated injuries).
Finally, yesterday evening more than 100 children and their parents
Enjoyed “Christmas in the Pipes”.
A crazy mountain adventure, but inside our cozy conference centre,
searching for hidden prezzies.
