Weather:

A little bit mixed today, sunshine for the first couple of hours of the morning, clouds creeping in just before lunchtime. Then in town we are expecting a few raindrops around midday! This does of course mean some much needed snow will fall at higher altitudes. We are expecting about 2 centimetres on the peaks.
The wind will be light in town, however south westerly gusts are possible up to 40 km per hour in the mountains.
Temperaures are looking mild, currently sitting at 0 degrees in the village, -1 up solaise and -3.5 on bellevarde. We are expecting a maximum of 3 degrees in town, hence the anticipated precipitation!
The road is clear if you are on wheels, and due to the lack of snow we have had recently, the pavements are pretty clear too. But as we all know ice has a tendecy to catch you out so do be careful.

Ski Report:

In Le Fornet, everything is open except the piste tunnel
On the Pissaillas glacier everything is open with no exceptions
Up in Solaise everything is open except, you guessed it, the 3000 drag lift which remains closed
Similarly on Bellevarde, everything is open including both Liasons with Tignes, chairs  Tommeuse and Borsat.
All walking and ski touring trails are also open.
As is the beginners area, including the tobogganing area.
The avalanche risk is 2/5 today, even still if you are heading off piste be sure to take the right equipment with you, including a transiever, shovel and probe, and most importantly you must know how to use it! Even better, take an experienced person with you, or hire a guide if you are not sure what you are doing.

/// Club des Sports Results
Last week, some of the young athletes from the Val d'Isère Club des Sports made it into the top 10 of various competitions. In the U21 Master Giant Slalom, Coline Quartier earned 2nd place on the podium. Well done Coline
On the men's side, eight athletes placed in the top 10. At the first stage of the Écureuils d'Or in Alpe d'Huez, Nolan Brusco came in 6th place in the Giant Slalom. During the Grand Prix Intersport in Val d'Isère, Jules Servant finished just off the podium, followed by Léo Ysten in the U18-21 Master Giant Slalom. Finally, Côme Ferrando took 2nd place and won the silver medal in the first U12 Giant Slalom of the Coupe de Bronze in Tignes. Louis Pierre finished in 6th place, and Dougal Davison placed 9th. A huge congratulations is once again well deserved to them all.

/// Torchlight Descent
To celebrate the first week of the holidays, Val d'Isère ski instructors are organizing a torchlight descent. It will take place tonight at half past six on the iconic Face de Bellevarde, accompanied by a DJ to set the rhythm and atmosphere on the snow front. The event will end with a traditional fireworks display. A hot drinks stand will also be available with an eco cup deposit for €2. The profits will be donated to the "Handisport de Val d'Isère" association. this will be a fun and meaningful way to spend your evening, so i would reccomend going along.

/// Mountain and Science Gathering in Tignes
The 11th edition of the Mountain and Science Gathering is taking place today in nearby Tignes. This festival offers a new perspective on the mountain through documentaries and science.
It's a true invitation to explore mountains and glaciers worldwide: from exploring ice mills in Greenland, Icelandic volcanoes, the birth of mountaineering at Mont Aiguille, rescuing endangered species, the composition of a snowflake, and the scientific investigation on the slopes of Mount Olympus, and a sanctuary for glacial relics.
In total, five films will be shown, many of which are premieres. To provide scientific insights, a meeting will be held with Audrey Goutard, a PhD student studying rain and meltwater on mountain glaciers, and Jordan Ré, a project manager at the Tignes town hall on climate change adaptation strategies. The event is at 8:30 PM at the Tignespace auditorium. The festival is free, but reservations are recommended. The last bus to Tignes from Vl IS AT 20 PAST 6 this evening, so it isi worth looking into lifts or taxis.
