Weather

After a stormy last few days, the sun is expected to make it’s grand return this morning! Cold and clear conditions are on the cards today, with a sea of clouds possible in the valleys lower down in altitude. Across our ridgelines and summits, a moderate to strong North-Westerly wind is likely.

In regards to temperatures, it’s going to be a chilly one out there, as we are expecting a top of -5°C at 2000m.

Roads

Snowy winter conditions will be found on the roads this morning in and around town. As per a Departmental decree; all vehicles in Savoie must be equipped with snow tyres, chains, or snow socks.

Local News

Paulette Bellier, nicknamed Ninou, left us this Tuesday, January 7th at the age of 90 (our photo). She had begun a career as a schoolteacher in the Drome, born at the foot of the Vercors massif, and had joined Val d'Isère in 1957 after her marriage to Edmond Bellier.
She welcomed holidaymakers to the family hotel for the winter seasons and to La Chapelle en Vercors in the summers up until her retirement in 1994. She passed away peacefully.

Another sad news, Monique Dietrich, aged 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 8th. She had been a faithful visitor to Val d'Isère for 50 years.
A religious ceremony will take place on Thursday, January 16th at 1 p.m., in the large chapel of the northern cemetery of Strasbourg-Robertsau. Instead of flowers, consider a donation to the nursing staff or to the SPA.

In happier news, finally a third World Cup victory for Clément Noël! Since his sprain during the Critérium last month, the local slalom skier has once again taken home the gold in Adelboden, Switzerland, followed by just 2 hundredths of a second by the Brazilian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen. The Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen came in third.
Clément Noël is particularly fond of this course, and despite the difficult conditions, but that did not prevent him from winning.

Last but certainly not least, we now know the date of the ceremony of the 5th edition of the Little Big Festival! This offbeat amateur short film night will be held on Friday, April 4th at the Congress Center. A festival open to everyone, where participants have six minutes maximum to take us on a journey and discover their world through a film with a open theme.
Only one constraint will be given: a mystery element must be included, which will be revealed on the first day of filming, between March 3rd and 24th.
