WEATHER

Another sunny day
There may be an occasional cloud,
but they are described as ‘inoffensive’ by the clever weather people.
Temperature is similar to the last few days
and an easterly wind may gust at up to 40 km/hour.
At 10.30 it is
-6° in the Village.
-4° on Bellevarde.
-8° on Pisaillas.
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be -2 to -4°

ROADS

No problems are expected on the roads today, but tomorrow is a change over day.
If driving, make sure your car is properly, legally, equipped for the winter.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Nearly all of our pistes were carefully groomed
and the 3000 draglift on Solaise is the only lift that is due to be closed all day.
At 10.20 we can see that the Grand Pre chairlift is not running –
hopefully a quick to fix techie problem

Quickest to mention the Pistes that are closed

There is training today on Stade Legettaz.

ON BELLEVARDE

The top part of the Santons is closed.
There is a worrying slab, waiting to slide ….
Don’t be there when it slips.

The Epaulet du Charvet
Will be open late, but worth the wait
as, unusually, it has been groomed.

They are still working on the Gypaete.
This is an area primarily a fun area for beginners,
so watch your speed if you go there.

ON SOLAISE

Just the 3000 piste.
This is a very black slope.
It always needs a lot of snow before even the draglift can be open.
A bad battering by the wind means that it is not opening any time soon.

IN THE FORNET

Pre chemin
Tunnel

ON PISAILLAS

The Cascade
Montets
Aiguille pers
Combe du Geant
Traverse des Arses

The avalanche risk today is 3  out of 5.
This is a considerable risk.
There are still fragile areas that you could mobilise…..
And wind over the last few days has blown snow around,
forming new slabs.

NEVER Ski off piste unless all of your group are fully equipped.
Beep, probe and shovel.
None of the group caught in Sunday's fatal avalanche
had beeps, or insurance.

Watch the time  of day you are skiing …….
Off piste is usually a morning thing.
On Tuesday 2 Dutch people failed to get from Col Pers to le Fornet
after setting off late afternoon.
They got completely lost, then waited until a chilly 2 am to call the mountain police for help,
before giving the wrong location.
So it was nearly 06.00 before they were found and flown out
from above the Gorge du Malpasset.

The pisteurs are THE people to phone when you are in trouble on our mountain.
PREFERABLY before it gets dark.
Their number is on the back of your ski pass.
Why not put it in your phone now, including the +33 for France.

Do avoid the Gorge du Malpasset.
This morning Chief pisteur Cedric described the whole area
approaching it from Col Pers as
“Rock and roll”…..not “Perfect powder”.
Just because an area was amazing last time you were here…..
doesn’t mean it is today.
Don’t venture off piste if you don’t understand the current conditions.

If you are going to Tignes
use the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts

For Cross country skiers
There are tracks for you to enjoy
In the Manchet valley and Lac Ouillette.

Walkers
All our paths are open except for les Branges.
If the wind whips up the Col de l’Iseran may close
as the lift down may stop, and it is then a long walk down.

We gave out two more medals to loyal visitors this week.
Jean Luc  Bousquet now has a gold
in recognition of returning regularly for more than 40 years,
after first coming with a friend when he was 12.
He comes in all seasons, enjoying particularly
the beginning and end of the winter.
Jean Luc  remembers being stuck inside for 6 stormy days,
when the kitchen filled with avalanche snow…..
His sponsor, Christelle Bonnevie,
also awarded a medal to his wife Myriam Gairaud -
a bronze as she has been coming for 20 years.
She clearly likes the sun as cycles here in summer
and got suunburnt after skiing in a T-shirt.
A tall tale from her past - skiing the Face when her height matched the bumps....
Yummy ! Glad it is now regularly groomed.

Leo Taiffer from Val’s Freeski Academy
was in our studio yesterday, describing coaching
his protegy, Val disères own Noah Peizerat
who won the  FIS Freeride Junior World Championship earlier this week.
They spent days with binoculars scanning the area and  plotting his descent.
By chance Noah was the last to ski….
So in difficult conditions followed after his 64 competitors had messed up the mountain.
Noah’s now moves up to the
Challenger before the Freeride World Tour.
Thank you Leo for giving up your time and
huge congratulations to Noah.

Our primary school children have a lot of fun.
Yesterday Classicaval musicians worked with them
Poetry and music.
Even the youngest were involved and enthralled.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 2nd workshop and
shared ideas for how to use the
community space in the new sports club building.
Local residents and architects refined and expanded ideas previously suggested.
4 ideas were discussed in detail.  areas for :
teenagers,
younger children,
general activities and
a lounge.
The latter was particularly popular –
There for everyone, user friendly opening times,
a kitchen and even space for storage.
Some had some misgivings about how the consultation process was going,
and disappointment that our local councellors
were not present.
There is still time for everyone to have their say –
the final workshop will be on the 2nd April
and will focus on the furniture and equipment..

Finally, « Best of British »
Jaz Taylor, the defending Telemark Crystal Globe holder had her
3rd podium and 2nd victory of the season at Carezza Spring World cup race.
A French lady, Laly Chaucheprat, came second….
Well done Jaz and the team supporting you.
