WEATHER
We love it when it is snowing in town.
It didn’t start until the middle of the night,
But by this morning there was 8 centimetres
Of fluffy white stuff covering the pistes.
Not much viz whilst it is snowing,
so remember your low light goggles.
The sky should clear this afternoon and tomorrow will be sunny.
This morning the wicked wind from the west
will gust at up to 80 km/hour,
but this afternoon, north westerly and a bit calmer.
It is quite warm.
At 10.30 the temperature is
- +1° in the Village.
- -3° on Bellevarde.
- -6° on Pisaillas.
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +2°
ROADS
f you are driving, you will need snow tyres, chains
or snow socks from the level of Breviere - maybe lower later.....
Please check the current rules.
SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
The 3000 draglift on Solaise
and the broken Signal draglift in le Fornet are the only lifts due to be closed all day.
You may have heard that a winch cable broke on Monday night,
and the huge grooming machine attached slid rapidly
and took out a pylon.
Most pistes were groomed last night, but it then snowed.
Powder on a smooth base is perfect for most,
but more challenging for beginners,
particularly as the day goes on and snow gets chopped up.
If your legs are moaning, take the lift down before they are screaming.
The lower slopes are likely to be tricky by the end of today.
Most pistes are open.
ON BELLEVARDE
The Santons is closed.
This is the sort of gully that an avalanche can quickly fill.
Our experts have decided that this could happen today.
Don’t ski under the ropes.
Why would you think you know better than our wonderful pisteurs ?
There is a race on the Raye.
For safety reasons, until the visibility improves,
The Boarder Cross, Snow Park and Monde du Gypaete will be closed.
ON SOLAISE
3000
LE FORNET
Tunnel
Signal
ON PISAILLAS
The Cascade due to lack of snow.
Combe du Geant.
Traverse des Arses.
Please remember that the « zones tranquilles »
and the Monde du Gypaete
Are primarily for beginners
Respect this.
If you have a speedy spirit, zip down The Boarder Cross.
Please don’t head to the Gorge du Malpasset.
You will just annoy the people who have to
risk their lives rescuing you.
The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
NEVER
Ski off piste unless your leader knows the area and current conditions.
Visibility this morning will be tricky.
Don’t follow tracks -
going over a cliff, onto rocks, or into a deep hole is potentially painful.
Make sure your team are appropriately equipped with at least beep, probe and shovel.
Do they ACTUALLY know how to USE them ?
Could they find and dig YOU out quickly ?
Maybe stay on piste until you can ski with,
And learn from a mountain guide.
If you are going to Tignes
use the Tommeuse or Borsat chairlifts
Don’t forget the last lift back is 16.30.
If you miss it, Panic Not, there is a shuttle bus
For Cross country skiers
There are tracks prepared for you to
In the Manchet Valley and Lac Ouillette.
All our walking paths are open
Skiing on our footpaths and roads is tempting, but both dangerous and illegal.
You will be fined.
LOCAL NEWS
If you wondered why the Signal draglift is out of action………there was an "incident" …
On Monday night, while grooming the piste
A big thick winch cable snapped,
Sending the attached huge grooming machine
sliding rapidly downhill before hitting a pylon
then spinning around and narrowly missing a second.
The insurers are sending an expert,
But in the meantime our lift company have been busy measuring and have already hatched a plan.
Move a pylon from the Col draglift, which was retired when the new vallon bubble opened.
Everything going well, it will all be working again in time for the February school holidays.

with bumps and banks.
It has previously been so popular that for the first time a dedicated junior race was added.
8 of our young people competed against each other
in 4 teams, each racing for 10 minutes.
20 adult teams slid wildly for twice that time.
There were jumps and humps, spills and thrills before 20 laps secured
Loïc et Camille’s place on the podium,
closely followed by last weeks winners, Baptiste and Gaspard.
Les Avalins were the Junior team winners.

Get fighting fit, mentally and physically for next weeks race.
