Local News
This morning the local news gives way to a detailed report. We will take a look at some of the highlights of the 31st edition of the Classical festival which was held last week.
The classical music festival was created in Val d'Isère for the first time in 1993 by Jean Rézine. The idea of this festival is to bring together young talents and great musicians in a spirit of transmission and openness to new generations, as Artistic Director Anne-Lise Gastaldi explained in her recent interview with Radio Val. To paraphrase;
"Sharing across the generations in Val d'Isère is very important to me. When we came at the very beginning, we were students and we sometimes played with more established artists. So I try to reproduce and remain faithful to this tradition that Jean Rézine had established at the beginning. And that is very important to me, it is something that is dear to my heart."
The 31st edition was marked by its choice of instrument in the spotlight, the trumpet, but also by the young age of many of the artists. To paraphrase;
"This year is particularly young with very young musicians since we have a partnership with the National Conservatory of Dance and music in Lyon (Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon). We had two students performing with us. It is something that is fairly recent in the history of Classicaval, as this partnership has only been in place for the last two years, which allows us to integrate young people into our programme."
Last Wednesday, the public was able to enjoy a unique concerto with the soloist of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Clément Saunier, who was seduced by the proposal to play during the festival and to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the acoustics. This was his first time participating in the event.
During his performance, trumpeter Clément Saunier was accompanied by string musicians including violinist Virginie Buscail who has been participating in Classicaval since its creation. To paraphrase Mrs. Buscail;
"I came as a student at the very beginning when it was Jean Rézine, who founded the festival and who invited me. I was very young, I was under 20 when I came the first time. It is a meeting, I must say, very important for me and almost annual. I always come with the same delight to this resort. Already the place is still marvelous: it is an extraordinary village and the site is exceptional. It is just marvelous. The public is great and the people are very welcoming so it is a very special event. "
The festival closed last Thursday with the traditional piano recital. Several big names such as Chopin, Schumann and Stravinsky were performed by the pianist Loann Fourmental who was able to enjoy and share the comforting and precious acoustics in the Church of Val d'Isère. For him, playing at Classicaval was a no-brainer.
"A festival in the mountains, at this time of year, and also in Val d'Isère, it is difficult to refuse. Anne-Lise, the Artistic Director, I was her student for a while from the age of 14 until I was 20, so we established a relationship of trust around music. It's a joy to see someone so sensitive and so professional and artistically accomplished trust me. I'm very flattered and obviously it's a great privilege."
This 31st edition was a success and was once again sold out. Classicaval will return for a single official concert on March 12th, under the artistic direction of Elena Rozanova, accompanied by three musicians: Anastasia Dewynter, Chloé Roussev and François Salque.
