SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
Good start to your week !
Most pistes are open and groomed and only one lift is closed.
ON BELLEVARDE
The Epaule du Charvet is a black run, so for very good skiers.
The top was not groomed, and the last wall is closed due to lack of snow
but you can cut into the bottom of the Santons.
The top part of the Santons will close early due to the risk of a
heavy big wet slab avalanche smothering this piste.
Don’t be there when it moves.
NEVER ski or board on a closed piste.
The Brinzei touring track is open but the lower part is pretty snow-free.
ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste and the lower part of the Marmottons are closed.
The upper part of the Marmottons, Cugnai, Fourche and S were not groomed.
LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret, Petit Bois and Signal were not groomed.
ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and groomed.
The avalanche risk today is 1 out of 5.
Spring conditions, but poor freeze lower down.
If you are heading off piste – do you really know
what you are doing and where you are going?
Do all your team have beep, probe and shovel and know how to use them ?
Would any of them be any use if you had an accident ?
Minimise the risk - hire a mountain guide.
If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or Borsat chairlifts.
All of our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open,
but it is difficult to groom the paths at village level so they are a
mix of soft snow, deep in parts, and bare ground.
Top pisteur tips :
Check that you have insurance that covers skiing.
As it warms up the snow on the lower slopes will be heavy slush.
Hard work for even competent skiers.
But for beginners – and anyone already tired.
Save your legs, and sense of humour.
Stay up high until you are ready to go home,
and then get the lift down.
LOCAL NEWS
Lets start with ski news !
The 45th Scara starts tomorrow.
A Huge event - often described as the “Junior World Cup”.
The worlds best skiers, aged from 12 to 15, representing 32 countries,
will compete on the Bellevarde’s OK piste.
As a bit of free information.
The “OK” doesn’t mean “OK – it is fine”,
The piste is named after 2 of Val’s famous skiers :
Henri Oreiller and Jean-Claude Killy.
Several of our younger racers did very well to reach the
French National Finals in Alpes d’Huez at the weekend.
The visibility rolled in and out with the clouds
so racing flat out was brave.
Out of the British blooded Val Club de Sport-ers,
Roscoe Schneiwind came 6th and Olivia Angus 12th in their year groups.
Well done to both of you.
Grown up GB Glory.
Zoe Atkin is now the Halfpipe World Championship !
Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear’s bronze for the ice dance in Boston
has given us our first World Figure Skating medal
Since Torvill and Dean, 41 years ago !
Meeting news :
A week tomorrow, Tuesday 8th April,
our mayor, Patrick Martin, will be hosting a public meeting
to talk about all the building work planned for
between May and next winter.
If it might affect you, don’t moan afterwards.
Go to that meeting ……18.00 in the cinema.
The board of our Vanoise national park is always looking for ways to
Educate, support agriculture including high altitude pastures
while promoting biodiversity,
protecting the environment and our wildlife.
Working together is better.
They recently signed an agreement with Pralognan-la-Vanoise,
and applications to join with us in the “Envie de Vanoise”
will open soon.
Finally, serious snow stuff this evening In the Maison de Val.
Franck, a trainer for the National Association for the study of Snow and Avalanches,
is giving his weekly talk, helping us manage risks off piste.
What your decisions should be based on,
and how we should behave if everything goes badly wrong.
We can only learn, anticipate and mange the risks.
There is no “No risk Scenario” away from our well prepared slopes,.
Monday is Market Day in Val.
They started at 08.00 and are open until late,
so come and peruse the many stalls in the Centre of the Village.

Which should be really interesting, we can never know enough.
We don't know what we don't know,
and what we do know always benefits from revision.
It will be lead by Franck Paragot, a trainer with ANENA.
To avoid disappointment…..for those that don’t follow spoken French.
It won’t be translated into English.
Until 4th May
there are 2 art exhibitions in the Maison de Val,
in the corridor leading to the cinema.
So open whenever the Maison de Val is open.
“Raconte” (Tell us…).
The famous French author, illustrator and cartoonist Clément Rizzo.
This Savoyarde artist went out and about meeting people
before transferring their stories, emotions and journeys into the
colours, bubbles and squares of his grown-up cartoons.
"Toutes les Vies se Val" (Everyone is important.)
This time by a very local, and less famous, artist, Laura M.
Charcoal portraits of “avalins”…
Both of our stars and the people who work quietly
behind the scenes to make Val as good as it is.
This challenge was dreamed up by cheeky Christėle Bonnevie.
The aim is to remember and share their interesting faces,
save something more than a photo can give.
It is an ongoing project as she hasn’t had time to do everyone !
