WEATHER

Wintery April day - new snow on trees and pavements, low clouds and cool temperatures.
However it suddenly got brighter …..so skies might not stay as grey as Meteo France have predicted.
A moderate north west wind is gusting and may reach 50 kilometres per hour below 2800 m and more above.

At 9.50 the temperature is

  • -1° in the Village.
  • -6° on Solaise.
  • -8° on Bellevarde.
  • -12° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +3°.

ROADS

No problems are expected today.

SKI REPORT

All lifts are already open at 10.00 except the Leissiers chairlift,
but this should be taking you "Up and Over" soon.

Most are open and were groomed overnight.

The following pistes are closed :

  • Lower part of the Marmottons due to lack of snow.
  • L as a big avalanche came down while they were grooming.
  • Santons is also closed due to the high risk of an avalanche sweeping you away.

Pistes are closed to protect you.
Do not nip under the ropes,
or access a closed piste further down.

This morning there is training and racing on the

  • Upper part of the OK
  • Upper part of the Orange
  • 3 J
  • Raye

If visibility allows, the Boarder Cross and Snow Park will open.

The following were not groomed :

AT LE FORNET

  • Fôret
  • Signal
  • Table d'Orientation
  • Tunnel

ON PISAILLAS

  • Cascade

ON SOLAISE

  • 300
  • Arcelle

  • S
  • Cugnai

ON BELLEVARDE

  • Fontaine Froide
  • Joseray

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses and  Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is a significant 3 out of 5.
There was a bit of a refreeze, but the new snow protects the lower layers,
so it might not hold as well as you hope.

Before heading off piste :

Look at your friends.
Would all of them be useful in an emergency ?
Could any of them help you ?

Any doubts ?
Enjoy our many miles of pistes until you can
book to ski with a mountain guide.

All our cross county tracks and walking paths are open and recently groomed except :

  • Les Branges
  • Laisinant
  • Part of the Manchet cross country due to avalanche risk.

LOCAL NEWS

A few highlights from this months Council meeting!

  • Val is staying in the ANMSM - the Club for Mountain Resort Councils.
  • Due to the slightly reduced ski area, while much needed work begins to replace the old bubble lift at Le Fornet on 21st  April,
the daily ski pass will be €39, so €27 cheaper.
You will still be able to access the Pisaillas by taking the Col draglift after either the Leisseires Chairlift,
affectionately known as the «Up & Over» or,
for  those that love the thrill of steep black bumps, the Tunnel piste.
  • Some other lifts will also close early but only where another lift can take you to the same pistes.
This won't be a problem as the resort will be quiet.
  • The vote to part-finance the exciting new Alpine Park event was passed.
Most is sponsored by Red Bull.
  • 80 people had signed a letter alling for the Council to address the
    serious housing shortage
for people who live and work in Val.

The minutes are on our website.
