WEATHER

We have a blue sky this morning !
Not completely clear, and meteo france are predicting plenty of clouds,
even describing the sky this afternoon as “Milky”, with reduced visability.
It didn't freeze in the village overnight, but was cooler in the mountains.
There isn't much wind at the moment though it may be a bit breezy this afternoon.
At 9.30 the temperature is

  • +1° in the Village.
  • -2° on Solaise.
  • -2° on Bellevarde.
  • -8° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +8°

ROADS

No problems are expected on the roads today.

SKI REPORT

Nearly all our pistes and lifts are open and were groomed overnight.

The only lift that will stayed closed is the Mont Blanc chairlift which is being repaired.
We had hoped that it was opening today,
but will need another day or two as whatever they are doing is apparently quite tricky.

They are currently digging out the Leissieres chairlift, the 'Up and Over',
that links Solaise and Le Fornet but it will open later today.

The exciting news is that for the first time in 15 years
the snow conditions are so good that the Tunnel piste opened yesterday.
This is a steep black run, which will soon have lots of bumps on it so
think carefully before heading there !
Remember, to watch your head
when you are going through the actual tunnel as it is not very high.
We don't also want bumps on your head !

The following pistes are closed

  • L
  • Aiglon
  • Moutons as you can’t get to it.
  • SCARA international racing for the Under 14s and Under 16s is on
the upper parts of the Orange and OK
Why not stop, get a few tips and CHEER !
  • There is training the Raye.

The Snow Park should open shortly.

The following were not groomed :

AT LE FORNET

  • Fôret
  • Petit Bois
  • Signal
  • Table d'Orientation

ON SOLAISE

  • Cugnai
  • S
  • Marmottons
  • 3000

ON PISAILLAS

  • Aigille Pers
  • Combe du Geant

ON BELLEVARDE

Everything was groomed except the Epaule du Charvet.

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses and  Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is  3 out of 5.
Remember :
Fresh snow + wind + warmth = tricky conditions.
Before heading off piste :
Look at your chosen companions very carefully.....
Could they find and dig you out, quickly ?
ANY DOUBTS ?
Stay on our lovely, extensive and well groomed pistes
until you can ski with and learn from a mountain guide.

All our cross county tracks and walking paths are open and recently groomed except

  • Les Branges
  • Laisinant

LOCAL NEWS

In the SCARA, the French Under 14s were able to race yesterday, despite limited visability.
Our home-bred skiers did very well, with 2 in the fastest 4.
They will join Val's 4 U16s who had already qualified for the Scara International races.

Icing on the cake - Val disère's Club des Sport won the prize for the best French Club !
Ahead of Tignes....    not that there is much rivarly !

After the Awards Ceremony, our Olympic slalom champion Clément Noël
talked about the Red Bull Alpine Park, our flagship end of the season event.
It is a mix of parallel slalom and slopestyle.
We will tell you more tomorrow........

Huge disappointment, particularly for the children,
with just a few hours’ notice the DJ Matafan pulled out,
so last nights concert had to be cancelled.

The SCARA International races start today with U16 slalom and U14 Super G.
Tonight at 17.45 the procession of the 42 competing nations will start in
the Place des Dolomites, by Val Village,
before heading to the prize-giving ceremony on the stage in the main street (Avenue Olympique).

For the first time in, we believe, 15 years,
the black Tunnel piste linking Solaise and Le Fornet opened yesterday afternoon.
Not without considerable effort !
The 3000 draglift had to be dug out with shovels.
This is the first time, since the 3000 lift reopened 5 years ago that there has been
enough snow to safely open the Tunnel piste.
The actual tunnel was dug out of the rock in the early 1960's,
before the Fornet cable car  was built in 1973 or
the first Leisseire chairlift in 1977.  That rickety number was replaced in 2003.
Viz was not good at 14.00, but that didn’t deter skiers keen to make the first tracks on the Tunnel.

Our grooming team have an electric machine on test for a week.
It is small, similar to those used for the cross country tracks and walking paths,
and has a range of about 3 hours, if not over worked.

Finally The Vie Val d'Is, the Club for Val’s employees, is hosting 2 days dedicated to LGBT issues.
This evening the 2014 British film “Pride” is being shown, in English.
This is based on the true story of how the gay and lesbian community supported the
miners and their families during the strike in 1984, the Thatcher years.
It will be flowed by a discussion led by Flora Passard,
a doctor of sociology.
Tomorrow Flora will become the DJ and host a party !
