WEATHER

The clouds are rapidly disappearing leaving us with a big blue sunny day !

A North West wind may gust at 30 to 40 km/hour.

The recent inversion continues so the mountains are warmer than our village.

At 10.00 the temperature is

  • -4° in the Village.
  • +3° on Bellevarde.
  • +4° on Solaise.
  • -1° on Pisaillas.

Maximum temperature is expected to be  +8 ° at 2000 meters.

ROADS

The roads in our village are free of snow and easy to drive on.

SKI REPORT

The good news is that ALL our lifts and nearly all our pistes are OPEN.

On Pisaillas

Everything is open and all the pistes were groomed overnight.

Top tip don't even consider skiing through the Gorge du Malpasset.

At le Fornet

All the pistes and lifts are open EXCEPT the Tunnel piste.
The pistes that were not groomed are

  • Foret
  • Signal
  • Table d'Orientation
  • Petit Bois

The pisteurs took their shovels and cleared snow from the actual Tunnel so that very strong skiers,
who can handle both the 3000 draglift and the 3000 piste, can walk through and admire the stunning view.
NB  It is very steep so not great if you have vertigo !

On Solaise

Everything is open.
The pistes that were not groomed are

  • Combe Martin
  • Rhone Alps
  • S

On Bellevarde

Everything is open.
This morning, the French Team will be perfecting their skills on the upper parts of the OK and Orange.
Why not take the Marmottes chair lift for a birds eye view of these World Class athletes.

Our talented Stars of the Future will be racing, until early afternoon on the Raye and the G.

The two touring tracks, Brinzei on Bellevarde and Ecureuil on Solaise are both open.
Please remember that NOBODY is allowed to ski DOWN these tracks.

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today has risen to 2 out of 5, following yesterday's heat.
Be particularly careful on avalanche prone slopes after the sun has warmed up the snow.

If considering skiing off piste.
The mountain doesn't always follow our rules or predictions.
Unless you are skiing off piste with a professional guide choose your companions carefully.
Someone who is 'a bit of a laugh' won't necessarily be able to use a beep.

Please control your speed, at all times, but especially when approaching the lower slopes so that you don't injure yourself or, more importantly, anyone else.

We have comfy lifts down that even accept skiers with tired legs.

Our walking paths and Cross Country ski tracks are all open except les Branges.

LOCAL NEWS

The Tarentaise roads are going to be busy as
Saturday = Change over day !
32,000 vehicles are heading our way and 7000 fewer are off home.

This is measured between Albertville and Moutiers, so not ALL of these thousands are coming to Val.

The times to avoid, unless you want a slow and stressful journey, when you are arriving are
between 11.00 and 20.00
with the very worst time
between 16.00 and 19.00.
Tip of the day - stop for an early supper during that time ?

Going home will be a bit easier, and the worst time will be between 09.00 and 13.00.

If you can delay your departure ...why not ………..
have another final ski………
delicious brunch……….
swim……..
smoother journey.

Quick disclaimer ...our traffic forecasts don’t take into consideration what the disgruntled agricultural workers may be plotting……mostly because it is a secret…even from the sleuths at RadioVal.
This has actually improved in the last 24 hours, but there are still areas where their tractors are inconveniently parked, and their straw bales piled high.
This may still involve the motorway between Chambery and Lyon.
The good news is that the construction workers decided against adding to the chaos this weekend.......
Our own local angry young farmers have been making their feelings clear in a more gentle way this week by turning the road signs upside down.
So that the arriving visitors aren't confused, local workers have been busy turning them back.

Saturday Stats

This will be the last week of relative peace before the school holidays start again.
The occupation rate of 80.9 % is almost identical to last week.
This week in 2023, was the beginning of the February holidays and bizarrely the occupation rate fell to only 66%.
This is probably explained as it was Zone A (Bordeaux, Poitiers, Besançon et Limoge )who are either not traditionally skiers or don’t have the sophisticated taste to ski in Val d’Isère.

Next Saturday we are very much looking forward to Zone C, including the Parisian invasion, arriving.
It is likely to be a very busy couple of weeks.
Make the most of this week !
