06022024-p2899359

WEATHER

The clouds are clearing and we are in for another beautiful day.
We still have a inversion though less marked than previously.
While the village temperature is the same as yesterday morning, it  is cooler on Bellevarde.

At 10.00 the temperature is
-5° in the Village.
-4° on Bellevarde.
-9° on Pisaillas.

A small amount  of snow is expected this evening.

ROADS

If everyone drives sensibly, there should be no problems on our local roads.

SKI REPORT

The good news is that all our lifts and nearly all our pistes are open.

On Pisaillas

Everything will open and the pistes were all groomed overnight.

At le Fornet

All the pistes and lifts are open except for the Tunnel piste.

The pistes that were not groomed are

  • Foret
  • Signal

On Solaise

Everything is open.
The pistes that were not groomed overnight are

  • Combe Martin
  • Cugnai
  • Rhone alps

The L MAY close later due to risk of an avalanche.

On Bellevarde

Everything is open.

There will be a Slalom Race on the Raye for the Under 16 ladies as part of the Golden Squirrel  Championship.

The upper parts of the Orange and OK are currently closed for training.

Santons may close this afternoon due to the risk of a slab avalanche.
If closed, please respect the decision of our ski patrol
and don’t ski under those ropes !

Everything was groomed except the G, but including Epaule du Charvet though remember even when groomed it is definitely a black piste so think carefully
before approaching particularly if your control needs some work.

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is again 1 out of 5  but still be careful particularly after the sun has
warmed and softened the snow on avalanche prone slopes.

If considering skiing off piste.

If you are not skiing with a professional guide make sure your companions are better with a BEEP than a BEER.

Please control your speed, especially when approaching junctions and the lower slopes.
Injuring yourself would be a shame.
Inuring someone else is a crime.

Remember if your legs are already screaming, you can take a comfy lift down.

Our walking paths are all open except les Branges.
Unusually a car has driven and, unsurprisingly, got stuck at the Laisinant, but there is plenty of space for you to walk around it.

Cross Country skiing tracks are all open.

LOCAL NEWS

The French Under 16 downhill skiing championship, cutely named The Golden Squirrels, is in full swing here this week, as well as in Tignes and St Foy.
As you may remember, Val d'Isère is hosting the slalom on the Raye, Tignes the Super G and St Foy the Giant slalom.
Spreading the event over 3 resorts means that more skiers can take part.
There were more than 80 yesterday and a similar number on Monday.
Many of our local future champions from Val d’Isère Sports Club (Club des Sports) were there, including Aime Ferrando, Noal Brusco, Louenne Palmier and not forgetting Aloïs Lefranc.who came 5th in the slalom yesterday.
Today and tomorrow, we will see 60 or so young ladies racing on the Raye.
Go and cheer them on !

A public consultation has been going on since the 15th of January, to consider a change in the local planning rules to allow modifications to the building where the Sports Club is currently based, but was originally the swimming pool.
You still have another week, until the 15th of February, to share your opinion, whether for or against,

  • online
    https://www.registre-dematerialise.fr/4547,,
  • email
    enquete-publique-4547@registre-dematerialise.fr
  • Send a letter to
    l’attention du commissaire enquêteur,

  • Speak directly with the Investigating Commissioner on 15Th February between 15.00 and 18.00.

Tonight at 18.30 will be the last cross-country skiing relay race in the Place des Dolomites, until after the school holidays in March, assuming conditions are suitable.
You don’t often get something so memorable for free.
Even if you don’t fancy racing yourself, it really is a fun event to watch with the bumps and lumps, skills and spills……
And you can sip mulled wine, or hot chocolate, as you cheer them on.
For those who REALLY want to take part, but SADLY lack the gear, drop the excuses as Intersport or Boraso Sport will lend you whatever you need.
We need to warn you that this race is extremely popular so to avoid disappointment, register your team as soon as possible after 18.00.

Yesterday's Health Checks organised by the  Vie Val d'Is, with the Hospital staff from Chambery, were very well attended.
Apart from dermatology and osteopathy,
local employees could get help with psychological problems, addiction and
sexually transmitted diseases.
Test results (anonymous) will be available next Tuesday.

Our British athletes have been busy this week,
This is a small selection of our many successes :

  • Charlotte Bankes celebrates her first snowboard cross World Cup win.
  • Marcus Wyatt  is the Men's Skeleton European Champion.
  • Olivia Howeson progressed from being hospitalised with 11 broken bones last year, to 3rd place in the U18 Junior World Ski Championships.

Finally,  BBC Correspondent Frank Gardner, who survived being shot by Al_Qaida in 2004, competed in a sitski in Crans Montana and proudly finished the Giant Slalom in 2 mins 22 seconds.
An inspiration to us all.
