WEATHER

We had a small amount of snow overnight, just enough to refresh the trees and streets in the village
but get out your low light googles as you will need these today as yesterday's sun is replaced by clouds.

There may be a south westerly wind with gusts up to 100 km/h so remember your neck warmer and face protection.

An unseasonal increase in temperature risks turning the already damp snow into rain.

We are due more snow tonight, just 5 cm in the village but up to 20 cm at the top of our mountains.
Initially we may have rain instead of snow below 2000 metres, but later we it will snow down way to 1500 metres ie much lower than our village.

Temperatures at 10.30 are

  • +1° in the Village.
  • +1.5° on Solaise.
  • -3° on Pisaillas.

Maximum Temperature expected is +4 ° at 2000 meters.

ROAD

There are no problems expected on the road today.

SKI REPORT

The good news is that all of our lifts are opening !

Although the difficult Signal and challenging 3000 draglifts are not yet open.

The only pistes that are definitely closed  are the Tunnel  and Combe du Geant.

However the L and Santons may close later due to the high risk of avalanches in into these gulleys.
If they are closed - DO NOT SKI DOWN THEM.

The wind predicted by France Meteo, is not currently obvious but if it is windy later lifts, and their corresponding pistes, may close.

Most of the area was groomed overnight but there has been 5 cm of snow since then so beginners beware.

At Le Fornet

Everything will open except for the Tunnel piste.
The Signal, Foret and Table d'Orientation have not been groomed.

The avalanche risk today is a significant 3 out of 5 .

LOCAL NEWS

Lets start with Val d’Isères dream to be included in the French Alps Bid for the 2030 Winter Olympics.
The President of the Auvergne Rhone Alpes, Laurent Wauquiez, came to the World Cup Women’s races in December, and  after this, at his request, in just 3 weeks,  a further proposal has been  drawn up.
This summarises our local expertise, and shows that the plans for our resort are both sustainable and would give all athletes from every tiny corner of the globe an amazing experience.
A predicted Cost  of 30 million euros for an additional venue was one of the arguments that left Val d’Isère off the current list of resorts.
However the work put into our dossier shows that the cost would actually be 12 million euros less.
Patrick Martin, Mayor of Val d’Isère, was our guest yesterday and the inteview is on our website.

Last night The eclectic opening concert of the Classicaval was sold out !
Lucky 220 who managed to secure their tickets.
After the concert the room at the Maison Marcel Charvain opposite was filled with musicians and music lovers chatting and drinking together.
This is the 30th time that we have been spoilt enough to enjoy this high quality festival, so we celebrated by getting the Chevallot bakery team to design a cake based on “Brioche aux Pralines” - yummy, buttery, sweet bread with red candied almonds for those yet to try them -  as these are a particular favourite of the artistic director, Anne Lise Gastaldi.
This was  also the perfect occasion to award a silver medal to Didier Dauville who has tuned the grand piano for Classicavl val since the first year of the festival.
A small token of our gratitude for his loyalty to Val d'Isère.

There will be another concert this evening and two tickets for tonights concert were won just by listening to RadioVal, and phoning quickly with their names. You will have the same opportunity tomorrow, so tune in.

For those that prefer cardio to chords, there will be another cross-country relay race this evening on the Place des Dolomites – between Val Village and the nursery slope.
Once again, the winner is the team that complete the most number of laps in 20 minutes.
Prizes for the winners, hot drinks for both spectators and racers.
