SKI REPORT

A perfect day on the slopes !

Sunshine, lovely snow, beautifully groomed pistes
and nearly all our many lifts and pistes are already open.

The very few  exceptions are :

  • The Tunnel piste in Le Fornet
  • The 3000 lift and piste on Solaise
  • The Moutons won’t open as this is can only be accessed by the
  • Mont Blanc chairlift which is still out of action, but will be repaired soon.
  • The Joseray is currently being prepared for an event later this week.
  • There is training on the Raye.

The L will almost defintely close early due to a high risk of avalanches.
Particularly once the sun warms it up.

Most of the pistes were groomed overnight.
Those not groomed are :

AT LE FORNET

  • Fôret
  • Signal
  • Petit Bois
  • Table d'Orientation

ON SOLAISE

  • Cugnai
  • Marmottons
  • S
  • Combe Martin

ON BELLEVARDE

  • Epaule du Charvet

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses or Borsat chairlifts.

The avalanche risk today is 3 out of 5.

IF you fancy skiing off piste ...
make sure you are appropriately
equipped and insured.
If you have the slightest concern
about what your team are doing, or planning to do,
stay on our beautiful pistes
until you can ski with a mountain guide.

All our walking paths and cross county tracks
are open and recently groomed apart from les Branges.

LOCAL NEWS

First concert, first triumph yesterday evening for the Classicaval musicians.
Huge praise for everyone, with a particular mention for the clarinettist Staffan Martensson who was part of the Mozart quintet.
As has become a tradition, musicians and members of the audience shared a drink, laugh and chat afterwards,
during which Frédéric Lagarde, who was present at the 1st Classicaval 30 years ago,
was presented with a silver loyalty medal.

Classicaval continues this evening with “An evening at the Opera of Versailles”,
and includes a countertenor, Serge Kakudji, who was a huge hit when he performed here 2 years ago.

This evening's concert is already sold out and 2 lucky people have won tickets by listening carefully to Radio Val !

The Sports Club AGM is at 18.00 this evening.
For those unable to attend, maybe lucky enough to be going to have tickets for the concert,
we will share a summary tomorrow.

Continuing with the Sports Club, their very popular nocturnal ski mountaineering race
the “Avaline Trax” is happening again tomorrow evening.
Same route as earlier this season, still an energetic 500 vertical metres up La Daille to the top of the Bubble.
Anyone can enter but recent races were fully subscribed,
so if you are keen to take part don’t risk disappointment,
register online ASAP.

Another sporting event this evening !
Now that the school holidays are safely behind us,
the area between Val Village and the nursery slope will once again be transformed into a
fun but challenging cross country track including bumps, and banks.

Talented, enthusiastic, or just plain competitive, skiers of all levels,
even beginners, can compete.
It is a relay, or a duet if we continue the musical theme !
So you do need to persuade a friend to join you.
There are prizes to be won !
It starts at 18.30.

If you have a good excuse, or just don’t want to compete,
still come along and cheer them on.

The Creperie O Rendez Vous is providing hot drinks
sure you have all heard hot tasty mulled wine is !
If you are brave enough to take part,
and have a similarly plucky partner,
but no kit...
you can borrow any equipment you need
from Boraso Sport, just next to the track.

Skidding quickly on
For any English speakers lurking,,,,,,,
Tomorrow evening there is a
Conference on Climate Change
“ Global Impact of Climate Change - its drivers, it’s accelerating rate, and how we are failing to address it »
hosted by Hugh Montgomery and presented in English.
Professor Montgomery is a specialist in the impact of climate change on our health.

It might sound a bit dry and serious but Prof Montg puts an optimistic spin on it,
looking at feasible solutions which already exist and could limit the damage, if implemented.
On top of this, 2 of our locals are making short but high quality contributions at the beginning and the end of the conference.

Our very own Henry Schneiwind, well known for his Avalanche talks,
opens with an insight into the effect of climate change on …..avalanches.

Another Val resident, Kieran O'Keeffe, closes the conference with suggestions on
capturing carbon from the atmosphere.

This runs from 16.00 - 19.00, so between skiing and dinner.
It takes place at the Henri Orieller Conference Centre
almost next door to the Sports Centre and Swimming Pool, and there is no charge to attend.

Even French speakers are welcome as there will be plenty of visuals,
making it very easy to follow even if your English isn't perfect.

You can listen to Henry talking about this, in French (Even though his English is usually pretty good) by clicking below.
