English Weather, News, Ski Report - March 18, 2024

Weather

Today is going to be a dreary day in the village. The snow-rain limit will continue to stay up around 2400m, with a total of 20mL of precipitation in town. Conditions are expected to generally clear up later this afternoon, but before that strong Westerly winds will be present across the mountains, gusting up to 70 km/hr, currently getting up to speeds of 45 km/hr at Pisaillas.
After a warm night in the village,at 9 o'clock it's 3°C, thankfully cooler up high with -1.5°C at the top of Bellevarde, and -4°C at Pisaillas. Today we are expecting a top of 6°C at 2000m.

Roads

No difficulties are expected for vehicles travelling in the local area today.




Ski Report

Difficult skiing conditions can be expected across the ski area today due to the weather. Multiple runs may close due to the high winds and avalanche danger, please respect all closures as they exist for your safety. AS of 9 o'clock the following is open;

The Pisaillas sector will have difficulties opening to the public today, currently only the Cema and Pays Desert lifts are open.

In the Fornet sector, both the Vallon gondola and Signal drag lift are closed, with the rest of the lifts and runs open.

Over on Solaise, all lifts will be open today, apart from the Leissieres chairlift. Piste L, with a chance other runs likely to close throughout the day due to the avalanche danger. Everything will be open on the snowfront today.

In the Bellevarde sector, the Mont Blanc chairlift and the Moutons run will be closed today, while all other lifts will be open. The Santons and the Expert border cross will remain closed today, with other runs expected to follow suit later in the day due to avalanche danger. The bottom section of the Joseray is closed due to the upcoming big air competition. Skiing in Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuse or Borsat lifts.

Cross Country skiers and Pedestrians will see a few closures today, including large sections of the Manchet Valley, the Col d'Iseran, Pont St. Charles, Les Sources, Marmottes and the Branges. The Brinzei ski touring trail is closed today.

The avalanche risk is 3/5 today. Always ski with a partner, have the appropriate gear and know how to use it, and if in doubt hire a guide.

Local News

Important public meeting this evening at 6:30 p.m. held in the cinema, at the Maison de Val. The Sustainable Planning and Development Project (PADD), carried out as part of the general revision of the PLU, will be presented publicly. All are invited to this public meeting and a recap can be found in tomorrow morning's news.

The Spring of Poets begins! A week dedicated to poetry in all forms, starting today with a Haiku workshop, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the media library, and a special cinema screening at 8:30 p.m. with “Bright Star” by Jance Campion, a film dedicated to the poet John Keats.
There are many surprises to discover at the Maison de Val this evening, which will be keeping its doors open until midnight.

Here we have the Monday morning update on the latest results of the skiers of the Val d'Isère Sports Club. Timéo Lefranc finished second in his category during the giant U15's silver cup in Méribel. Nolan Brusco won the race in his category, during the Super G in Grand Bornand as part of the Golden Squirrel comps.
Numerous podiums during the Intersport Grand Prix at la Plagne. In the U16's Coline Quartier finished 2nd, in the U18's Lydie Bazile won the race just ahead of Astrid Clément, and for the boys Jules Servant finished 2nd in the U18's.

In other alpine skiing World Cup news, Clément Noël has missed out on a win this season, coming 5th yesterday in the Saalsbach slalom. Norwegian Siman Haugan took home the win, ahead of Manu Feller and Linus Strasser. The skier from the Val d'Isère Sports Club believes he has had a good season, with consistent results, almost always in the top 5 and with several podiums. With a total of 397 points, Clément Noël finished 5th in the slalom rankings, the small globe landed in the hands of Manu Feller.
The ladies competed in a GS yesterday. Federica Brignone held the fastest time. Overall in the specialty ranking, it is Lara Gut Behrami who won, barely 21 points ahead of Féderica Brignone. Following the technical events this weekend, the speed events will be held from March 22nd to 24th in the Austrian resort.

- Cinema: 8:30 p.m. 'Bright Star': Immerse yourself in English romanticism and the literary creation of one of the greatest poets, John Keats, through the film in French by Jane Campion

Free Public Transport

- The Red Shuttle will be circulating between La Daille and the Fornet every 6 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then every 20 minutes until 2 a.m.
- The Yellow shuttle, up to the Manchet Valley, leaves every 20 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 11:20 p.m.
- The Blue shuttle going up to the Legattaz is every 15 minutes between 8:30 a.m and 11:20 p.m.
- The free shuttle between Tignes and Val d'Isère runs 6 times a day :
Departures from La Daille at 7:55 a.m. 8:35 a.m. 10:50 a.m. 4:25 p.m. 5:25 p.m. and 6:20 p.m.
Departure from Tignes 1800 at 8:05 a.m. 8:45 a.m. 11 a.m. 4:35 p.m. 5:35 p.m. 6:30 p.m.
