IF you fancy
Crosscountry skiing :
There is a track prepared at the Manchet.
Be aware that this is shared with
walkers, dogs and dogs with sledges.
The track at Lac Ouillette has also been prepared
but is currently narrow.
You could also walk at Pont St Charles.
The avalanche risk today Is 3 out of 5.
ALWAYS think carefully before skiing off piste.
The base isn’t great.
Slabs, holes and rocks are a real risk
to both bodies and skis.
PLEASE don’t ski without insurance.
For just a few euros you can buy it with your pass.
Remember not all insurance covers “off piste” …..
And “off piste” is even a couple of inches on the
wrong side of the poles….
LOCAL NEWS
What a great weekend of World Cup Racing –
Our 69th Critérium.
Over 10,000 people braved the cold to watch the racers
give it their all, despite tricky conditions.
Yesterday’s slalom was won by Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen.
His third win in Val d’Isėre.
Val d’Isėre’s own Victor Muffat-Jeandet
was the highest placed French racer, finishing sixteenth
Steven Amiez from Courcheval was the leader after the first run,
Followed by huge disappointment for his
many fans, watching from the bottom of the Face
When he fell, just a few seconds into his second run.
Despite his dramatic fall on Saturday
our local slalom expert Clément Noël
was still hoping to race yesterday,
but his ankle injury forced him
to make the difficult decision to withdraw.
Assuming his medics give him the go ahead
He will be in the starting blocks of the next race
at Alta Badia in Italy.
Now…………TEAM GB……..
Dave Ryding
Rocketed into 9th place.
Impressive at any age
Let alone 38.
Never knock learning on a dry slope !
Laurie Taylor was hot on his heels
finishing twelfth.
Makes us Proud to be British.
Many thanks to everyone
who made the event such a success.
With a particular mention to the 205 volunteers.
On Friday our Club des Sports
took advantage of the
generous vibes that always accompanies the Critérium weekend
and hosted their 4th charity evening.
134 600 euros was donated,
nearly three times the amount raised in previous years.
A massive support for Val d’Isėre’s talented youth.
Of the 24 lots auctioned, 3 raised an ENORMOUS
stash of cash….
- a morning's skiing with our
local Olympic Champion
Clément Noël
8 300 euros. - A ski with the footballer Bixente Lizarazu
14 500 euros. - One of the Vallon bubbles, built in 1983, and retired last season
then decorated by Britt, the renown contemporary French artist
46 000 euros.
