Weather

Stormy conditions and cloud cover will continue to blow in today from the East, so as a result moderate to strong winds are expected at higher altitudes, averaging 40-60 km/hr throughout the day. This summer, Val d'Isère will host the French Trail Running Championships for the first time. These championships will take place over two weekends, on July 5th and 6th and 12th and 13th. Participants will traverse across breathtaking high-altitude panoramas, passing through forests, nature reserves and the Vanoise National Park.

Yesterday morning, the FIS Citadine held a Giant Slalom on the Raye piste, with 64 women and 84 men from all over the world taking part. In the women's race, Léane Francis from the Arraches Les Carroz Ski Club finished at the top of the rankings in 2 minutes and 91 hundredths, followed by the Canadian Arielle Desrosiers by 41 hundredths and Anna Violon from the Chatel Club coming in third.
 In the men's race, Arthur Salles from Mâcot won in 1 minute 58 seconds and 92 hundredths. The Danish Sebastian Beyer-Stannow came in second with a gap of a little over 1 second. Third place on the men’s podium was British skier Hamish Blyth.
The next FIS Citadine race takes place this morning at 9am with another G.S. on the Raye piste at La Daille.

Franco-British ski patroller Caroline Elliott has released a children's book entitled Fjord’s Mountain Mission. This book tells the true story of Fjord, a rescue dog who works daily alongside his owner Caroline Elliott to protect and save lives on the snowy slopes of ski resorts. Aimed towards kids, young people are invited to immerse themselves in the daily life of this rescue dog, to discover the world of ski patrol, while learning the safe habits in ski areas.
Throughout the pages, Caroline Elliott talks about her experiences, and a notable avalanche rescue in the Pyrenees. An educational book allowing children to learn the basics in the mountains. The book is endorsed by high-level athletes such as pro snowboarders Xavier De La Rue and Marion Haerty.
Fjord's story is accessible to people with dyslexia and translated into several languages ​​such as English, French, Spanish, German and Swedish.
