WEATHER

Our paths are covered with snow, but walk carefully
as some areas are still skiddy, due to ice underneath.

It is cold…and will feel even colder due to the North wind
which has been howling at around 100 km/ h.
Though at 10.30 just over 30 on Bellevarde

You will have a cloudy morning, with a few snowflakes, but the skies will clear up for a few hours before clouding over again.

At 10.30 the temperature
"out of the wind"......

  • -7° in the Village.
  • -12° on Solaise.
  • -14° on Bellevarde.
  • -17° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be -5°

ROADS

Friday …….
the day that we traditionally feel we should warn you about the traffic over the weekend………..
But………
You don’t need projected statistics……..

  • The weekend before Xmas…….
  • Schools holidays………..
  • There is one mountain road up from Bourg St Maurice.

I THINK everyone already knows that it will be a tricky day on the roads, particularly for anyone arriving.

Preparation is EVERYTHING……..
check your tyres are the new legal standard
or that you have chains or snow socks,
AND know how to put them on……
Top Tip :Following instructions works better than
brute force

Pack drinks, snacks and entertainment for your children.

  • Relax
  • Drive carefully
  • Arrive safely

SKI INFO

If you woke to the sound of explosions, fear not !
Our pisteurs were up early, working very hard to
keep our pistes, village and us,
safe from the risk of avalanches.

This has delayed some openings.
The lower lifts obviously opened first, and there is now
a gradual opening of the rest of lifts and pistes.

Please respect their expert decisions.
Even the normally charming
Birthday Boy Bouli
may  be grumpy if he has to risk his life
rescuing you
from a closed piste.

This mornings headline news is
that the brand new Vallon Bubble is due to open!

Watch the information boards;,
or check the app when you are out,
as it is not yet open. (while I type !)

If you do go up in this bubble
The normal piste down is not open.
You have two choices :
take either the Leissier chairlift towards Solaise,
Or enjoy riding the beautiful new bubble down.
It is definitely quicker, and more comfy, than the old one

You cannot go from Solaise to le Fornet
On the “up and over” chairlift today.

To get to Tignes, use the Tommeuse chairlift.

The avalanche risk today is 3 out of 5.
Although the official recorded snow fall was 14 cm,
it ranges from zero on the windswept summits of pisaillais
to 40 centimetres deep.
There is wind, new snow and a high humidity,
added to slabs and a fragile base.

THINK VERY CAREFULLY before skiing off piste

  • NEVER ski alone.
  • ARE your team all fully equipped ?
  • Could they find and dig you out quickly ?

If the answer is NO - enjoy our pistes !

For up to date reports please check here.

LOCAL NEWS

GOOD NEWS !
The Vallon Bubbles are due to open today instead of tomorrow.
The old ones which were installed  in 1983 have been replaced.
This took just 8 months of hard work in challenging weather conditions so bravo to the teams involved.
It were due to open at 9 am this morning !
But there was a PIDA across all our ski areas.

A PIDA is the term for the procedures our teams of pisteurs use to protect our slopes, skiers and village from the risk of avalanche.
NEVER even think about walking up before the lifts officially open on PIDA days.

A new bookshop, The M’Lire, is opening on the main street today.
Apparently the highest bookshop in France !
It is a partnership with Thierry Danien from the Garin bookshop in Chambery and the grand opening is at 14.00.
It has eclectic selection of novels, mountain books art books, comics and childrens books.
Many even in English !
Christophe Lledo will be both running the shop and hosting interesting events.

If you are here for the season, and this skiing lark is new to you, you can get free lessons, with kit included,
via the Vie Val D’is (The local Association for Employees).
The next course is starting at 14.00 TODAY.

Yesterday 78 top class FIS racers slalomed down the Face, first place went to Thomas Lardon from Alpes d’Huez who finished after only 1 minute 35 seconds.
Val's own Rouslan Zaysser Lacroix and Anthony Moris and Augustin Berthet raced but were not placed.
There is another race this morning.

The first workshop was held last night to listen to our ideas for how to use the spare 150 m2 at the new Club des Sports.
All views were noted and two more workshops are planned.
It is a space for the locals to enjoy.
Please do let the Town Hall know your preferences.

This morning there is another FIS race down the Face.
