WEATHER

As per your dreams : “A White Christmas! “
Even better, sunny !
But don't let our big blue sky reassure you,
the weather scientists are still mentioning a high risk of avalanches.

There will be occasional north easterly gusts.
We have a temperature inversion
so warmer on the slopes than in our village.

At 10.30 the temperature is

  • -6° in the Village.
  • +3° on Bellevarde.
  • -1° on Pisaillas.

The Roads are covered in snow

Drive carefully and legally.
Your car, even one with four wheel drive, must have
the new correct spec snow tyres, or snow chains or tyre socks.
You can check the current regulations here

SKI REPORT

Click here for the most up to date information
but our highlights are summarised here :

Most pistes were groomed and lifts open though the Pisaillas is still recovering from the winds that ravaged it over last few weeks,
so skiing there is more limited than usual.

You can get the Leissiere chairlift (The Up and Over) in both directions between Solaise and Le Fornet.
The Cugnai chairlift is opening.
The Village Perdu is open.

The Santons, Epaule du Charvet and L are all closed.

Runs are always closed for a reason, other than to just irritate you.

If you have to be rescued on a closed run
The normally charming pisteur,
Who’s expert advice you ignored
Who has put her or his life at risk
To help you
May be very grumpy….

The avalanche risk today is a significant 3 out of 5.
The copious amounts of snow we had a few days ago
fell on top of slabs and a fragile base.
So ….
Ready to take you for a ride
Over rocks and into holes.
Probably not much fun……

.

LOCAL NEWS

Another 3 skiers are counting their lucky stars.
Yesterday afternoon, while skiing the Tour du Charvet,
a popular off piste area accessed from Bellevarde's Grand Pre chairlift.
They were taken by an avalanche which was
500 metres wide and 1 metre deep.
Pretty big by anyone's standards
and absolutely terrifying for those involved.

Amazingly no-one was killed or seriously injured.
Xmas miracle.

Thanks again to the ski instructor who raised the alarm
and the rapid response of our fab ski patrollers.

However………..
These pisteurs are keen that we remind you …..
Do not ski off piste unless you are in a group
That are ALL well equipped, and train regularly.
Weekly regularly, not regularly every ten years.

Can you all find buried beepsssssssssssssss
Flick out your probes
click together your shovel
And
DIG
Quickly…. ?

If you can’t -
Do not risk your life.

Avalanche bags are great, but
you need to react and activate them quickly
and
you will still need someone who can help .............

Maybe stay on the piste until you can
ski with, and learn from, a Mountain guide.

On a lighter note
We recorded children telling us
what they had asked for from Santa Claus………

The worthy asked for
Joy and Health.

The wise asked for
A mountain chalet !

A fine attitude !
Certainly Worth a try !
