English Weather, News, and Events - February 07, 2025

WEATHER

Sunny day with just some   decorative clouds,
both pretty and bringing snow tonight.
This afternoon, wind could blow from the South at up to 70 km /hour.

At 9.50 the temperature is

  • 0° in the Village.
  • -4° on Solaise.
  • -7° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +2°

ROAD

Finally, good news !
All going well, the RN90 between Albertville and Moutiers is reopening at 16.00 today.
Both lanes, both directions.
There will be a speed limit of 50 km/hour -
sounds speedy to those who were stuck last Saturday !
In preparation, the road  will first have to be closed, both directions, for 2 hours from 14.00.
So pass Moutiers before 14.00 or after 16.00.
Long lunch ? Extra ski ? Bit of shopping ?
Tomorrow is the first change-over-day of the French School holidays.
32,000 cars are expected uphill, and 3000 less heading home.
Remember if you bought a 6-day ski pass, the 7th day is 'free'.
If you can be flexible, why not enjoy a sneaky extra day on our pistes,
and leave in the evening.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Only 1 lift closed and most pistes are open and groomed.

ON BELLEVARDE

The Santons will probably close  around midday.
Never ski under the ropes.
Why do you know more than our experts ?
The pisteurs will have closed it as they are worried about a slab
falling off, causing an avalanche and burying you.

If jumps and bumps are your thing, go to the snow park.

Borsat has not been groomed.

The Brinzei touring track was groomed after the avaline trax race yesterday evening.

The last wall of the Epaule was not groomed,
but you can take the bottom of the Santons.

The Village Perdu was not groomed last night.

There is training on the Raye,
but it will then open for everyone to enjoy

ON SOLAISE

Only the 3000 lift and piste are closed.

The Cugnai, Route du Col,
S and the Marmottons were not groomed.

LE FORNET

Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Signal draglift has been fixed.

ON PISAILLAS

The top of the Montets is closed, but you can ski the lower section.
The Cascade was not groomed.

The avalanche risk today is 1 out of 5.
"Low" risk, not "No" risk
If you fancy skiing off piste, choose your friends carefully.
Do they all have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Know how to use them ? Practiced, successfully, recently ?
Any doubts ? Stay on piste rr book to ski with a mountain guide.

If you are going to Tignes
use the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts

All our walking paths are open.

There are tracks prepared for cross country skiers
In the Manchet Valley and Lac Ouillette.
“Multi activity tracks” are shared with everyone :
cross country, fat bike, snow shoes, walkers and dogs.
Leave the cross country tracks to cross country skiers,
particularly don’t damage the grooves.

We had a treat this morning !
Instead of a pisteur sharing their wisdom, we had charming Gregg.
He leads the team of 26 drivers and 19 machines
who spend their nights grooming our pistes.
On very steep slopes, such as the Face, Epaule and Signal,
the work is more “Technical” and
the grooming machines are supported by huge cables.
Imagine the “Surprise” the driver had recently when
the cable snapped on the Signal.
Luckily only a pylon was injured.
Enjoy a good translation ?
Facebook calls our grooming machines,
the ‘ladies’.

Yesterday evening was the 3rd Avaline Trax ski mountaineering race of 2025.
35  keen skiers nipped up the 480 vertical metres through the la daille forest, in the dark.
It took Baptiste Tantino just 27 minutes and 22 seconds.
The swiftest lady, Kaitlin Allen, 34 minutes and 52 seconds.
Zippiest team, The Altitude Apples, had a combined time of 1 hour and 1 minute.
Impressed ? Feel you could do better ?
Plenty of time to prepare, as the next race is on the 13th March.

The collection of health waste, which we mentioned last week,
is happening between 14.30 and 16.30 this afternoon.
Opposite the hotel the « Cinq Freres »
Or Five Brothers for those that didn’t do
rudimentary French at school.

You can’t say our local children don’t have fun while learning.
Yesterday our junior ski patrollers were there when The SAF Rescue helicopter arrived.
They were studying hard, visiting the pisteur's first aid huts,
where they were shown the tools, toys and tricks used
grooming the pistes and when looking after
the injured, or finding those that have got lost.
