WEATHER
We woke to 15 centimetres of snow in town, and 20 cm on the slopes.
Even deeper where the wind had blown it around.
Sunny, blue sky day but windy, particularly this morning.
We were told it would be
Up to 100 km/hour but at 8.15 it hit 155 km/hour on the glacier….
It is cool, and has got cooler in the last hour.f
At 9.50 the temperature is
- -4° in the Village.
- -10° on Solaise.
- -12° on Bellevarde.
- -15° on Pisaillas.
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be -1°
Have something to protect your face, as -12 can feel -24 with the wind.
It could be chilly on a chairlift.
ROADS
Care if driving out of Val.
There was an accident at the junction of the Tignes Dam this morning.
If you have to go this morning, leave plenty of time
Another busy change over weekend, so expect plenty of traffic .
If you can leave early tomorrow, do.
Though much better if you can leave late,
and enjoy a sneaky extra day on the slopes
Remember the 6 day lift pass includes a free 7th day….
SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
Today’s sun and blue sky is a treat, but the wild and wicked wind
is affecting the lifts, particularly in Le Fornet and on the Pisaillas glacier.
Keep an eye on the noticeboards when you are out.
Most pistes were groomed at sometime during the night,
but many were then snowed on.
Beginners beware !
The easier pistes were groomed this morning,
but may still have fresh snow on the smooth base.
As the day goes on, the slopes may be more ‘chopped up’
and snow heavier, particularly on the lower slopes.
So save your spirit, and knees - when you are tired get the lift down.
Several pistes are closed due to a risk of avalanche.
If a piste has been closed, after careful consideration
By our experts, for your safety, do not ski it !
ON BELLEVARDE
The big bumps in the Snow Park probably won’t open
as 100 km/hour winds make them dangerous.
ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The "up and over" taking you to and from le Fornet is not yet open at 10.30.
LE FORNET
Wind………..Everything may open, except the Tunnel.
Though at 10.30 you can only ski on the lower slopes.
ON PISAILLAS
Wind…………
Nothing is open…….. yet…………..
The teams who look after us on the slopes are not being
Mean, difficult or plain wimpy.
The wind was 155 km/hour just after 08.00.
But has dropped to 100.
ON THE NURSERY SLOPE
Everything is open Including the Tobogganing area.
The avalanche risk today is 3 out of 5.
This is not a medium risk, but a considerable risk.
Never underestimate the bad effect the wind has had blowing snow around.
There are slabs, hidden but ready to move.
Don’t be on one when it does…
If tempted by skiing off piste.
Think very carefully - your friends…….
Do they all have a beep, probe and shovel,
know how to use them, have they practiced regularly and recently ?
Any doubts ? Stay on piste or book to ski with a mountain guide.
If you are going to Tignes
use the Tommeuse or Borsat chairlifts
All our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open
But the wind may stop you going up.
Avalanches don’t go around walkers, so
the Pont St Charles and Les Sources may close later.
Val have launched a “rule reminder” campaign.
So everyone can feel safe on our slopes.
Easiest rule to remember :
The skier arriving from above is always responsible for avoiding those below.
When overtaking, leave way more space than you could possibly think is necessary.
Injuring yourself is a shame
Injuring anyone else is a crime.
Please ski in control, at all times, at all speeds.
Faster does not mean you are a better skier.
