Local News
For this new week, the village's attendance is on the rise. Val d'Isère will reach an 81% occupancy rate with a total of 87,800 overnight stays. This has increased compared to last week, the quietest week of January, as reported by Cécile Ferrando, Director of Communication and Marketing at Val d'Isère Tourism in yesterday’s interview with the radio.
According to this weekend’s traffic forecasts, vehicles entering the area will likely encounter congestion all day long today, with traffic predicted from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For those leaving the area, only the middle of the day will be impacted, with congestion between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Tomorrow, traffic will be fluid in the direction of arrivals. On the other hand, traffic is predicted for departures at the end of the day, between 4- 8 p.m.
If you’re still holding onto your Christmas tree and don't know what to do with it, the Adroit farm will recycle it. Until the end of the month, you can drop off your naked tree, whole, without decorations or plastic bags at the large bins in town, or at the Brévières recycling center during opening hours.
The trees will then be stored on a composting platform at Laisinant. Next summer, they will be crushed and stored, letting their temperature naturally rise up to 70 degrees. This process will be carried out a total of three times over two years to transform the material into compost.
Once the process is complete this compost will be spread over grassy portions of the ski area, where construction has been carried out, in order to replenish the soil while allowing new plants to grow.
Stéphane Krause, an extreme swimmer, has made his annual return to Val d'Isère over the last 5 weeks, as he has done for the last 10 years, to get some fresh air and prepare himself physically. This professional athlete, and coach of the French windsurfing team prepares and approaches his swims as you would for a mountain race.
His passion for sea swimming was born 10 years ago, after a knee problem, which allowed him to push his limits and challenge himself; his 2024 season was marked by swimming through extreme storms. Notably that of Caetano, with a swell of 4 to 5 meters and gusts of wind of up to 70 knots.
After having stocked up on red blood cells through ski touring, the extreme swimmer is leaving our mountains today to head back out to sea for new adventures.
