WEATHER

Good start to your ski week.
Sunny day, big blue sky, no wind to speak of.
At 9.30 the temperature is

  • -4° in the Village.
  • 0° on Solaise.
  • -1° on Bellevarde.
  • -4° on Pisaillas.

The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +5°

ROADS

No problems are expected on our roads today
for safe and sensible drivers.

SKI REPORT

Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Nearly everything is open and most pistes were groomed last night.
Only 1 lift and 2 pistes will be closed all day.

ON BELLEVARDE
The Epaule du Charvet and G were not groomed.
The upper parts of the OK and Orange, and the Raye
will be closed this morning for training
before opening for everyone.
If you like jumping, the Snow Park has a range of obstacles
to suit all skill levels.
Jumping onto a regular piste is not cool, and dangerous.
The Brinzei touring track was groomed yesterday, so still in good condition.

ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The S, Cugnai, Rhone Alps and Marmottons were not groomed.
For tourers -the Ecureuil track is never groomed.


LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret is never groomed.
The Petit Bois and Signal were also not groomed.

ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and groomed.

NURSERY SLOPE
Everything is open and groomed, including the tobogganing area.

The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
Low risk but not no risk.
There are still wind slabs lurking which might take you for a
fast, painful ride
onto rocks  or over a cliff.
If tempted to ski off piste, look closely at your group.
When did they last practice with their beep, probe and shovel ?
Listen to your gut…stay on piste or ski with one of our many mountain guides.
They do know where they are going, and what they are doing.

If you are going to Tignes use the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.

All of our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open.
Why not take the lift up to top of le Fornet ,
and walk along the Col de l’Iseran, Europe’s highest mountain pass.

Top Pisteur Tips
Beginning of week, start of your holiday…..

Check you have insurance that covers skiing.
If not you can buy it for just over 3 euros a day from the lift pass offices.
The phone number for the ski patrol is on the back of your lift pass,
why not put it into your phone, including +33 for France
Remember, Control your speed at all times.
Leave The Monde du Gypaete and other quiet zones for beginners.
If you want to zooooooom - Go the border cross…..

LOCAL NEWS 

Yesterday evening the fireman (pompiers) were busy with a fire,
rather than first aid which is what normally keeps them out of mischief.
A chimney fire in a hotel in the centre of the village .
Their expertise put it out quickly without having to hose the hotel down,
and they were on their way after about an hour.

First Monday of the month so, Town Council meeting !
If you can't make it there for 08.30, or would rather ski ….
Fear not you can follow it on the Town Hall you tube channel.

Another disappointment for Val’s Olympic champion Clément Noël,
when he came 10th in yesterdays World Cup slalom In Slovenia.
He was 5th in first run but the 2nd run was trickier.
He was nearly 1 second slower than the winner, Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen.
One second between first and tenth……….shows how tight the races are…….
Clement is still 2nd in the World Cup slalom ranking……
So……………Pretty good !

Val’s Victor Muffat-Jeandet, who won a bronze in the Olympics in Korea,
has released a documentary on youtube called
« L'Atterrissage » (“The Landing”).
This takes an honest look back  at a dark part of his career.
2 injuries in 2022 and 2023 meant he missed both
The Beijing Olympics and the French World Championships.
He talks openly about his doubts, resilience
Return to the World Cup and his physical and mental recovery.

The Pelican Association, which helps with addictions,
Is in Val offering free and confidential advice and practical help
From 17.00 – 19.00 this evening in the St Jacques building.

If you have seen strange things happening ….
Filming has started for the 5th Little Big Festival,
and will continue for the next 3 weeks.
Before being edited, spliced, reduced, stuck together into just 6 minutes.
No physical mystery object this year…
But it must include the phrase “I am your father”.
Put 4th April in your diary……
As all these 6 minute films will all be shown In the Conference Centre.

While on Films, tickets are on sale for the
28th  Festival of Adventure and Discovery.
This very popular, so if you are going to be here
Between 14th-17th April, get your money out !

Happiness in the Schniewind household this weekend.
Jackson came 3rd for his year in the under fourteens Bronze Cup,
while Katrina was racing again after recovering from an injury
and came 5th in the giant slalom.

Finally, Grown up GB Glory.
Mia Brookes Is top of Snoboard Park and Pipe standings after a bronze in Clagary.
Our 18 year leads with just one World Cup to go.
Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale
won silver in the Team Snowboard Cross World Cup in Turkey.
Huge congratulations to all of you, and the teams behind you.

TODAY'S EVENTS

Monday is Market Day in Val.
They started at 08.00 and are open until late,
so come and peruse the many stalls in the Centre of the Village.
These include
local cheeses and dried meat
clothes
ski kit
arts and crafts.
What about a prezzie for those back home ?

Which should be really interesting, we can never know enough,
particularly after the recent fatal avalanche.
We don't know what we don't know, and what we do know always benefits from revision.
To avoid disappointment…..for those that don’t follow spoken French.
It won’t be translated into English.

How we became the World’s Best Ski resort, in our humble opinion.

Free local Buses

The red shuttle bus (‘le train rouge’) runs between La Daille and Le Fornet, via the roundabout adjacent to the nursery slopes (‘Rond-point des pistes’)
It leaves la Daille every 10 minutes from 07.00 to 19.50 and then every 20 minutes until 02.10.  
The night bus leaves Le Fornet at 20.10 then every 20 minutes until 2.30.

The blue shuttle bus (‘le train bleu’) travels between the Rond-point des pistes and Legettaz every 15 minutes from 08.30 to 23.00.

The yellow shuttle bus (‘le train jaune’) takes you to the Manchet valley via the main street and the rue de la Balme and Rond Point des pistes every 20 minutes from 08.30 to 23.20.

The Purple shuttle bus between Val d’Isère and Tignes : leaves the new bus station at La Daille at
07.55 8.35 10.50 16.25 17.25 18.20.  
On request it will stop at La Reculaz and Villaret du Nial.
It leaves Tignes 1800 at 08.05 8.45 11.00 16.35 17.35 and 18.30.

Rendez-vous

The Multimedia Library is open from 14.00 to 18.00.

The Association for Employees in Val d’Isère (Vie Val Dis) is open from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 15.00 to 18.00.
