Today is looking like glorious sunshine and mild temperatures all day, with a few high clouds but nothing that will get in the way of your sun bathing.
The foehn and lombard winds blow lightly at times, prevailing from the southwest at altitude and gusting up to 40kmh on the highest ridges.
Temperatures are set to reach a maximum of 8 degrees in town, and -5 on the peaks so a relatively mild day.
Temperatures at 09:00 were -1 degree on Bellevarde, -6 degrees on the Pisaillas glacier and 3 in town.
The road surfaces are mostly clear, but pavements can be slippery so do take care when moving around on foot.
A textbook ski day if you are heading out on to the hill today.
In Le Fornet sector, everything is open today except the piste tunnel which remains closed.
On the Pissaillas Glacier, everything is open today without any restrictions.
Up in Solaise everything is open today except the 3000 drag lift which is still closed due to lack of snow, this includes the whole beginners area and the toboganning piste.
As for Bellevarde, everything is open, including both liaisons with Tignes—chairs Tommeuse and Borsat.
There is a chance that piste L and Santons may close later as in this warmer spring weather the avalanche risk is a lot higer. If you are pplanning on heading down santons keep your eyes peeled for the sign at the top of bellevarde with the updates.
There is also the giant slalom event on Borsat today, open to all so do go along for fun if you can.
The avalanche risk is 2/5 today.
With the chance that there is still some lovely fresh power left to play in you may be keen to head off piste.
I must remind you that the avalanche risk is always to be taken seriously, especially with this warmer weather.
If you are heading off piste make sure you have got all the kit, dont be an all the gear and no idea kind of person … make sure you know how to use it! This includes a transiever, shovel and probe. If you've got an experienced person or two handy take one of those too, or even better hire a guide if you are not sure what you are doing!
The sun is spring like and strong an the UV index will reach up to 5 today so do take care of your skin.
The road surfaces are mostly clear, but pavements can be slippery so do take care when moving around on foot.
Good Morning Romuald, Good Morning Val D'Isere
Firefighter Training by Ski Patrollers
Yesterday morning at the summit of Bellevarde, firefighters received training from ski patrollers on the proper emergency response techniques in mountain rescues, particularly during avalanches (as shown in our photo). The rescuers met in an immersive environment where the firefighters learned various search techniques and became familiar with the equipment used by ski patrollers, such as avalanche transceivers (DVA) and the Recco system, as explained by Michel Bonnevie, the ski patroller leading the training session.
Some volunteers had the opportunity to experience the role of an avalanche victim. This was a valuable experience for the firefighters, allowing them to acquire new skills or reinforce existing ones to be fully operational in case they are called for reinforcement during an avalanche rescue.
Super G Test at Borsat
Usually held every Friday, the Super G event is taking place exceptionally this morning on the Borsat slope. This initiative, organized by the Piste Management Authority, aims to counteract feelings of insecurity on the slopes. Each week, this test proves to be a great success and is conducted on a dedicated, equipped, and secured green slope, open to all. The goal is to raise awareness among skiers about proper behavior on the slopes and the importance of speed control.
The Super-G on the Borsat slope will be open from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
Spring of Poets
Yesterday at midday, artists Fish Le Rouge and Monkeywink led a creative writing workshop called "Poetic Imprint," where participants were encouraged to tune into their senses and transform their immediate experiences into words.
In the early evening, Léone Leconte presented "Wild or the Infinity of Nothingness," a performance blending storytelling, poetry, and dance to explore themes of connection to nature, solitude, and love.
A final workshop, following up on Tuesday's session, will allow participants to continue their "Dear You" sound postcard project under the guidance of artists Fish Le Rouge and Monkeywink. The Spring of Poets festival will conclude tomorrow with a concert by the artists at 7:00 PM at the Le Splendid cinema.
Act for the Glaciers
The "Act for the Glaciers" festival returns to Bourg-Saint-Maurice – Les Arcs. Starting today and running until Saturday, the event features discussions, meetings, workshops, and conferences with experts, scientists, and local stakeholders, all focused on raising awareness about the protection of glaciers and the ecosystems that depend on them.
Loyalty Medals Awarded
Three loyalty medals were awarded again last night. Karelle Regin received the silver medal for 35 years of loyalty, sponsored by Valérie Maertens. Her childhood friend since the age of 8, Aurélie Goon, was also present. Karelle expressed her gratitude for growing up in the village and forming strong bonds with the locals. She appreciates the station’s authenticity, its expanding ski area, and enjoys visiting both in winter and summer.
Her parents, Marthe and Robert Shaffhold, received the grand gold medal for 50 years of loyalty. They purchased their first apartment in 1977 and stayed until the Winter Olympics in Val d’Isère. Originally from Strasbourg, the couple spends five to six months each year enjoying skiing in the winter and fishing at Lac de l'Ouillette in the summer. They fell in love with the village’s authenticity and the presence of sports activities. From their very first visit to Val d’Isère, they knew they would return as often as possible.
The couple also reminisced about major events in the resort’s history, including their privileged view of the Olympic events from their window. They were sponsored by Michel Bonnevie and Aurélie Goon.
