The 'Hotel and Restaurant Group of France' held a meeting with some of its members on Sunday and Monday in Val d'Isère. Approximately a hundred people were present at Folie Douce to discuss the results of the winter season and the challenges facing the industry.
Hoteliers and restaurateurs from the valley, and also from neighbouring resorts, had gathered to exchange views, alongside several political representatives. Speeches were made from Fabrice Pannekoucke elected to our region, Martine Berthet senator of Savoie, or even Bruno Charlot the sub-prefect of Albertville.
They took note of the difficulties of drawing up an assessment for ski areas this season, as the situations are so diverse, between the high altitude town in the east generously covered in snow, and the lower resorts, some of which have been forced to shorten their season.
Everyone seemed to agree on a necessary change of tactic, abandoning “skiing only” to move closer to a year-round tourism model. Kitzbuehel was used as an example, this temple of alpine skiing now banking on 40% of its annual turnover during the summer season. Several other discussions followed one another on subjects such as climate change, the attractiveness of businesses and employment.
Even if the situation has stabilised Post-Covid, where 130,000 people left the industry, including 40,000 seasonal workers, employment remains at the heart of concern.
Yesterday's busy news made us miss out on the recent results of the skiers of the Val d'Isère Sports Club. Our young athletes are still going strong as we come to the end of the season.
On the podium, Victor Muffat Jeandet took out 3rd place in the G.S last Friday in the Belgian championship here in Val. Nolan Brusco won the Auron U16's Giant Slalom. 1st place overall in the Slalom for Katrina Schniewind in the U14's bronze cup at La Rosière on Sunday. First place finish as well for Jules Dufour Drai in the same race, and Hugo Perraud took out 2nd place in his age category.
Congratulations to all our champions, a full list of results can be found in this morning's French local news.
