The snow flurries are not enough to blanket the roads, no difficulties are expected for vehicles today.
Ski Report
Poor visibility and flat light are going to be likely across the ski area today, however it should not affect operations, with the majority of the terrain open to the public today.
The Pisaillas sector will re-open to the public today, with all of its lifts and runs.
In the Fornet sector, the majority of the terrain will be open today, although the Tunnel run will remain closed.
Over on Solaise, all lifts will be open today, with the exception of the 3000 lift. Piste L will likely close in the afternoon due to the overhead avalanche danger. Everything will be open on the snowfront, including the tobogganing area.
In the Bellevarde sector, the Mont Blanc chairlift and the Moutons run will be closed today, while all other lifts will be open. Skiing in Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuse or Borsat lifts.
Cross Country skiers and Pedestrians can head out to almost all of our trails today, apart from the Branges.
The avalanche risk is 3/5 today. Always ski with a partner, have the appropriate gear and know how to use it, and if in doubt hire a guide.
Local News
Since 2019, Val d'Isère Téléphériques has launched an ambitious plan to reduce CO2 emissions. The ski area snowcats and other vehicles run on HVO, a fuel that reduces emissions by nearly 90%, and over the past 2 years STVI has made huge investments to switch its bus fleet over to electric.
Following the success of the first two shuttles last winter, 4 other electric buses have been introduced this winter. The objective is to have a 100% electric fleet, i.e. 17 buses, by 2026. A significant investment, estimated at 6 million Euros.
To accommodate this, construction must be carried out on the Valbus building at the entrance to the village. Yesterday, Val d'Isère Téléphériques invited station officials to discover this ambitious plan. The bus service is not the only department reducing their emissions, Val d'Isère Téléphériques is seeking to reduce its footprint in all areas, even announcing that in the long term electric snowcats are possible, a prototype is being tested in Tignes this winter.
Activities linked to the ski area represent a mere 3% of the emissions of a winter sports resort. The primary source of pollution, by far, is attributed to the transport of holidaymakers coming and going from the mountains.
After the musical preview last night at the Avenue Lodge hotel (our photo), it's time for the first concert of the Classicaval festival this evening in the church. A tribute to one of the greatest composers in history, Mozart. Two works will be performed this evening, a piano quartet, and a clarinet quintet.
A concert which is already sold out, there are no more places on sale for this evening, nor for Thursday evening. As of yesterday, there were barely 10 places left for Wednesday night, so hurry up before it's too late.
However, there is a 3-night pass for sale, in the 'les petites annonces' on the Radio Val website.
On the subject of Classicaval, no need to reserve your place for the snow piano today! We are delighted to go and see Marc Meyer and his piano from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the summit of Bellevarde, playing and singing in the middle of the mountains.
Also, the kindergarten class will get together at 10 a.m. this morning in the church for a musical tale performed by the festival musicians and Elodie Fondacci, from Radio Classique.
Music lovers will not know where to listen this evening with, in addition to Classicaval, the return of Jazz à Val this evening on Radio Val d'Isère. An hour of jazz with Michel from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., just after Frédéric's après ski show.
Small correction after yesterday's announcement of the results of the Val d'Isère Sports Club athletes. We had left out the results of Roscoe Schniewind, 3rd in the second round of the Sainte Foy slalom on Sunday, as well as the 3rd place of his brother, Jackson in the U12's slalom in La Plagne. Our apologies for this oversight and congratulations to their continuous fantastic results.
