English Weather, News, Ski Report - March 29, 2024

10122017-attila

WEATHER

A dull, cloudy morning, but clearer skies are promised for this afternoon.
We may have some snow landing on the slopes but we have windy peaks.
The spring like temperatures at 10.30 are

  • +7° in the Village.
  • +3° on Solaise.
  • +1°  on Bellevarde.
  • -4° on Pisaillas.

ROADS

No problems are expected on our roads today.

SKI REPORT

As of 10.00 nearly all our pistes and lifts are alredy open, and were groomed overnight,
but the wind may upset things, lifts may close, or not open
so, when you are out keep an eye on the electronic notice boards.

The only lifts closed on Bellevarde at moment  are the

  • Borsat which takes you towards Tignes
  • broken Mont Blanc chairlift (it will be repaired, soon)

On Solaise everything is open except :

  • Leissiers chair lift which links to Le Fornet
  • 3000 draglift

At Le Fornet the following are not (yet) running :

  • Vallon bubble lift
  • Signal draglift

On the Pisaillas glacier
only the T bar is still closed.

The following pistes are closed

  • Tunnel
  • Moutons as the Mont Blanc Chairlift is still not working
  • There is training on Raye
  • Boarder Cross and Snow Park won’t open
    unless visibility improves

The following were not groomed

AT LE FORNET

  • Fôret
  • Signal
  • Petit Bois

ON SOLAISE

  • 3000
  • Marmottons
  • S
  • Combe Martin

ON BELLEVARDE

  • Epaule du Charvet

Tignes can be accessed via the Tommeuses chairlift
as wind has already stopped the Borsat chairlift running.

The avalanche risk today is  3 out of 5.
up to 20 centimetres of snow landed in some areas yesterday.
Even a small avalanche could be big enough to drag you over rocks and bury you in a hole.
Always think carefully, before venturing off piste.
Make sure your team all have the correct equipment and know how to use it.
If you have any doubts, stay on piste until you can ski with a mountain guide.

All our cross county tracks and walking paths are open and recently groomed except

  • Les Branges
  • Laisinant
  • The Col de l'Iseran and the
  • Lac Ouillette are also closed
as the wind may have stopped the lift by the time you need to get down.

LOCAL NEWS

Friday – so we start with Easter Weekend traffic !
Relax as it is pretty much OK, for a change-over weekend.
Between today and Sunday we are expecting
66,000 vehicles heading uphill from  Albertville towards Moutiers
and 13,000 less going home.
The only times to avoid are for those arriving
11.00 - 19.00 tomorrow.

Today the much anticipated, 4th
“Little Big Festival”.
Turn up at the Henri Oreiller Conference Centre from 19.30 to socialise and grab your spot.
There is no charge but places are limited.
The main event will begin at 20.00.
9 films, by local, amateur filmmakers,
interspersed with interviews of the teams who made the films,
and plenty of surprises,
like only these organisers can  dream up !
For those who can’t make it all the way to the conference centre,
it will be broadcast and the link is HERE.

Our ski patrollers have organised a Celebratory Day at La Daille starting at 11.00 on Friday.
100 or so ski patrollers and drivers of the grooming machines from 8 resorts
are expected for this party which marks the beginning of the end of the winter.
The program of races includes :

  • a pairs giant slalom
  • patrollers racing with a bloodwagon
  • Precison grooming.

This year the event is open to the public, and many fun and free activities are planned including :

  • a waterslide
  • rifle shooting
  • a lumberjack competition
  • a close look at the snow grooming machines.
  • A refreshment stand with a bbq and tarte flambées, (tasty, very thin Alsacian version of a savoury pizza) completes the event.

The ski patrollers will finish the day with an evening in the Tontons Bar in La Daille.

Yesterday afternoons final flakes didn't stop the entrepid competitors of the Signal Derby,
race off piste from the top of the Grand Vallon to the bottom of the Fornet.
The fastest man, Youri Beaumer, arrived in 2 minutes and 30 seconds !
The speediest lady, Flora Jacopin,
who previously raced up La Daille in the Avaline Trax ski mountaineering race in an equally impressive time,
arrived in 3 minutes 12 seconds.
Not many turns I suspect !
And after the race.......PARTYTIME with music from the High Garden Sound System.

Onto very sad news. Attila, Val’s much loved and famous golden retriever, died at the age of 12 years.
Known to all the locals for his daily walk to inspect his favourite places,
especially the restaurants in the Place de Dolomites, the Tourist office and, of course, his home in the luxurious Blizzard Hotel.
He wasn't  interested in bothering strangers, but loved cuddles from his many friends.
Val's mascot will be sorely missed.

Francine and the family of Firmin Mattis
would like to thank everyone who came to his funeral,
particularly those from the ESF and Club des Sport
who went the extra mile to speak in the Church and form the guard of honour.

Unfortunately this weeks mean weather hasn’t spared the
French Parapente Championship, Vol & Ski
(Flight and Ski)
which had already been postponed due to bad weather at the beginning of this month,
and will once again have to be cancelled as the Evil East is bringing storms and snow.
