English Weather, News, and Events - February 21, 2025

20022025-p1288408

WEATHER

Nice bright day, though it may cloud over later.
The wind may blow at up to 30 kilometers per hour

Temperature is a bit warmer than yesterday.

At 9.30 the temperature is

  • -1° in the Village.
  • +2° on Solaise.
  • +1° on Bellevarde.
  • -2° on Pisaillas.

The wind is currently gusting at less than 15 kilometers per hour.

ROADS

No problems are expected on our roads today.
BUT another busy change over weekend.
So likely to be busy-ish this evening, and very busy tomorrow.
If you can delay your departure, why not use the “Free” extra day,
If you bought a 6-day pass,
and be in 7th heaven
as Saturdays are a very good day to be skiing.

SKI REPORT

For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.

Nearly everything is open and most pistes were groomed last night.
Only 1 lift and 2 pistes will be closed all day.

ON BELLEVARDE

The upper parts of the OK and Orange, and the Raye
will be closed this morning for training
before opening for everyone.
The Santons may close later due to the risk of avalanche.
If the sun warms the surface too much,
the Boarder Cross and Monde du Gypaete may close.
The lower part of the Epaule du Charvet and the G were not groomed.
The Brinzei touring track is in great condition.
If it is too short, Pisteur Gerard recommends doing it 4 times.

ON SOLAISE

The 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The S, Cugnai and Marmottons were not groomed.
For tourers -the Ecureuil track is never groomed.

LE FORNET

Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret is never groomed.
The Petit Bois and Signal were also not groomed last night.

ON PISAILLAS

Everything is open and groomed.

NURSERY SLOPE

Everything is open and groomed, including the tobogganing area.

The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5. Low risk but not no risk, especially as it is warmer today.
The biggest risk off piste at moment is falling onto something hard,
as the snow cover is not all deep and fluffy.
If tempted to ski off piste : look closely at your group.
Do they all have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Know how to use them and practised recently ?
Could they help you in an emergency ?
Listen to any doubts…Stay on piste or book to ski with a mountain guide.
For anyone who needs help, on or off piste, the number for the ski patrol
is on the back of your lift pass. Why not put it into your phone ?

If you are going to Tignes use the Tommeuse or  Borsat chairlifts.

Pisteur Gerard would also like to remind you to control your speed
particularly approaching the nursery slope at the bottom of the Face
as there are a lot of children.
Also in the quiet zones, and the Monde du Gypaete.
“Non-beginners” have the Expert boarder cross to zoom down.

All of our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open
BUT the Pont de St Charles may close later if it warms up enough to
make the experts worry about an avalanche burying you.

IF ANY  of our pistes or tracks are closed
It is ALWAYS for a very good reason
Do not nip under the ropes…..
Go somewhere else.

Yesterday evening 50 people were at the Crazy Barms
to meet the director, and author, Claude Lelouch.
He covered his career, from first camera to today,
his passion for the cinema and included some good
film related anecdotes.

There is another Literary soirée organised by the
Barmes de l’Ours at Crazy Barms this evening.
Meet the author Valėrie Perrin.
As an aside she is also a photographer and used to work with
last night’s author Claude Lelouche.
Valėrie will be talking about her latest novel “TATA”.
This starts with a phone call from the police,
breaking the news that her aunt has died.
Sad news indeed, but also surprising,
as she had buried the same aunt 3 years ago.
Aunt Collette clearly wasn’t quite as boring as she had believed.
Be sure to book as 40 places have already been sold.

Yesterday evening, around 200 children took part in
“The Little Torches” Charity event.
150 French ski resorts hosted lantern descents,
raising money so that underprivileged and sick children
can also enjoy our mountains.

It is the Dynastar Trophy competition his evening
on the Savonnette slope.
This famous race is only for holiday makers,
not for secret semi-pro or pro skiers.
By that I mean, if you belong to an Alpine Ski Club,
or are on a ski training course you must not compete.
It is a single-elimination parallel slalom.
3 simple categories – men, women, children.
Winners will receive a prize from Val d’Isėres partner
Dynastar, who will also donate a pair of skis for the raffle.
There isn’t a fee to enter but there are only 32 places for men and children and 16 for women.
There are a lot more competitive spirits than that here on holiday at the moment,
so if you want to experience the thrill of racing
don’t hang around – put your skates on and
get to the Club de Sports to register ASAP.
You can find the Club office next to the ticket office
between the bottom of the Olympique and Solaise bubbles.

18.00 this evening there is an art workshop in the cosy studio,
up the back stairs behind the Church.
This is led by local artist and Val’s own amazing art teacher Rozenn Roszak.
This evening’s session is based on the Arno Stern philosophy.
Freedom - make marks, play with colours, enjoy the process.
No judgement.
In a world where our children are constantly taking exams,
being graded, compared and contrasted,
this is a time for them to express their inner joy.
Children must be at least 5 years old.
Adults are also welcomed.
Please book at the Tourist Office.

A message from our partner

La Corniche.
This local restaurant, just behind the Church
so a mere snow ball’s throw from the snow front,
has a sunny terrace sheltered from the wind
that is open for lunch.
Come and try their delicious traditional Savoyard dishes.
