WEATHER
A couple of windy words, as we keep using these terms.
“Foehn” - Strong, warm, dry wind.
The “Lombarde”, a northeasterly wind from Lombardy,
blowing along our border with Italy.
Not completely random knowledge as today we have both,
gusting at up to 50 km/hour.
But a warm day, with a clear blue sky and sunshine.
At 8.00 the temperature is
-2° in the Village.
-1° on Solaise.
-3° on Bellevarde.
-7° on Pisaillas.
The maximum temperature at 2000 metres will be +7°
ROADS
No problems are expected on our roads today.
SKI REPORT
For the most up-to-date information please click here.
Here are the highlights of the ski report.
Superb day to ski.
Nearly everything is both open and groomed.
Only the 3000 drag lift will be closed all day.
ON BELLEVARDE
Everything was groomed last night except for :
the last steep wall of Epaule du Charvet,
The G and middle part of the Orange.
The Santons may close due to the risk of an avalanche smothering this piste.
A big slab has gone in last few days, but there is more that could move.
NEVER ski or board on a closed piste.
ON SOLAISE
The 3000 lift and piste are closed.
The Marmottons, S, Cugnai and Ecureuil touring track were not groomed.
The L is also a gully, and may close for same avalanche reasons as the Santons.
LE FORNET
Everything is open except the Tunnel.
The Foret and Petit Bois were not groomed.
ON PISAILLAS
Everything is open and groomed.
On the NURSERY SLOPE
Everything is open and groomed
Including the tobogganing area.
The avalanche risk today is 2 out of 5.
If you are heading off piste – do you really know where you are going?
Do all your team have a beep, probe and shovel ?
Could they find and dig you out quickly ?
It is springtime, so the time and place that you ski off piste
Is even more important than usual.
Be very careful, especially on north facing slopes far from the pistes.
Listen to your gut – any doubts ski with a mountain guide.
If you are going to Tignes, use either the Tommeuse or Borsat chairlifts.
All of our walking, multi activity and cross country tracks are open.
Please control your speed at all times.
Tomorrow, the pisteurs are setting up a Super G course on the the Borsat Green run,
so that you can practice speeding,
without the risk of hitting anyone else.
Open to everyone, however fast or slow.
LOCAL NEWS
Start the day with stats.
There was a breakfast meeting yesterday morning,
when the Tourist Office’s partner G2A
presented figures that are interesting to us all.
The average occupancy rate is 70.4%.
The lowest 37%, and highest 92%.
No prizes for guessing that this is over Xmas and the New Year,
when schools, all over the world, pick the same weeks for their holidays.
A week costs just a bit less than Courchavel which heads the rental charges.
However, hotel wise, we are only the fifth most expensive.
40% of our foreign visitors come from The United Kingdom,
followed by Denmark, Sweden and Belgium.
Most French people come from The Île-de-France,
then the Auvergne Rhone Alps.
Next year’s French school holiday calender is already published.
G2A is keen for as many Hotels and rental companies as possible
to sign up and share their data, so that it can be as accurate as possible.
G2A is definitely busy !
They are also doing a survey wth the ANMSM,
The National Association of Mountain resort mayors,
looking at the future of our resorts,
particularly in the face of the current economic and climate challenges.
